Self-defense is the set of physical and mental skills used to protect oneself from harm. On the
path of knowledge, self-defense is understood pragmatically the body is a temporary vehicle, but while it exists, its well-being is to be cared for naturally.
Self-Defense and the Path
- The body is not the self, but it is a functional instrument for navigating the world of experience. Protecting it from unnecessary harm is practical wisdom.
- The seeker does not need to be passive or vulnerable the path does not require letting oneself be harmed.
- However, fear for the body's safety should not dominate the seeker's life the body will eventually perish regardless of how well it is defended.
- Self knowledge that recognizes 'I am not this body' makes one realize that no harm can touch what I truly am, which leads to fearlessness.
