Self Realisation

Self-realisation (Skt. आत्मज्ञान Atma-Jnana) is the direct recognition of one's true nature as the experiencer (the Self), standing apart from the changing world of experience and the layers of memory. It is the ultimate goal of the path of knowledge.

The Core Realisation

  • I am the Seer: Self-realisation is the absolute, unshakable conviction that I am not any experience — I am the Experiencer.
  • Not a New Experience: It is not a magical, temporary experience with fireworks in the sky. It is the simple, direct recognition of the unchanging, unborn, and deathless conscious Presence in which all temporary experiences arise and dissolve.
  • Dissolving the "I": The individual, separate "I" is recognized as a temporary, egoic construct. The boundary of "me" and "mine" collapses, and the seeker realizes that their true essence is existence itself.

Life After Self-Realisation

  • Detachment and Peace: Although the physical body, thoughts, and memories continue to function, the identification with them is gone. This brings deep detachment from worldly objects, and a natural state of permanent peace.
  • Fearlessness: Knowing that the Self is immortal, unborn, and untouched by physical change, all fear of death, loss, and sickness vanishes.
  • Unconditional Love: The self-realized being sees everything and everyone as their own Self. This non-dual understanding spontaneously manifests as nonviolence, compassion, and unconditional love.
