# Laws of Memory : Part 02 ## Potential, Vibration and Memory --- Welcome to Pure Experiences. This is a series on Laws of the Memory. In the last part, we heard about imagination, philosophy, ontology, epistemology, evidence, and existence. So, hopefully there are no doubts about these things. Today, we are going to jump into the foundational concepts in order to study the laws of memory, or the laws on which the whole existence operates. ### Existence as Infinite Potential As I said, the whole existence is empty; it is zero. It does not mean nothing. The zero actually means there is nothing real, nothing true, still there is. And a good word to point to that is potential. It is potent. Instead of actuality, there is only potential. That is how existence is. So, what kind of potential is there? The potential to appear as an experience. And there is no limit to this potential. It is infinite potential. The existence is infinitely potent. There is no limit on what can appear. Where is the evidence for that? We are going to find out. We will use our imagination to form a concept of potential. Remember, nothing is true here. No absolute truth. Since the existence is zero, completely zero, empty, in order to appear as something, it must change from this zero to something else, but still remain zero, because nothing actually changes. So, the only way to do that logically is to have two states which are completely opposite of each other. For example, -1 and +1, the total is always zero, but still we have something. Or you can have any number there: -20 and +20. Or you can imagine it as directions, arrows pointing in exactly opposite directions. So, we have something, but the net or the total comes out to be zero, or empty. Are there any numbers in the existence? Are there any arrows? Is there anything at all? And the answer is no. Only one thing can be said about the existence: that it is. That is the simplest concept you can have: it is. So, if it says, "I am not," it creates a state. And if it says, "I am," that creates another state. And the result is complete emptiness because there is nothing. ### The Superposition of Binary States A superposition of two states gives you potential. These two states are: there is something, and there is nothing. Existence says, "I am," and then it says, "I am not." It hides for a while. There is no other possibility. Nothing else is possible in the existence because nothing else is there. You cannot bring numbers, or time, or weights, or arrows, or directions; there is nothing. So, there is superposition of two states. Remember, this is all imagination, theory, although you will find evidence. It is very logical. The superposition of two states is apparent. The states are not real. You can say the existence says, "I know I am," and in the next moment it ignores what I am. That's another way to show the superposition: knowledge of what I am, ignorance of what I am, hiding from what I am. These are two states. In short: knowledge and ignorance. Why do we call it knowledge and ignorance? Why do we use these words: "I am," "I am not," or hiding from what I am? Because, remember, the existence has an ability to witness, to know, to experience. That is the experiencer aspect. So, it can do that. This is not completely false. When it chooses to know, this is one state. When it chooses to not know, it's another state. Remember, nothing is actually happening here. It cannot do anything else. It cannot bring any other state. And this never happens in time because right now there is no time. There is a complete superposition of these two states, binary states. So, it knows that I am, but it still does not know because there is nothing to know. You can say light and dark. So, the only potential there is, is to change the statethis binary state from one state to another. Still, it is infinite. This is the simplest kind of change, but still it can produce infinite variety of experience. That's why we say that this potential is infinite. This is called the manifestation of experience. The experience is experience of irreducibles. Irreducibles are imaginary modes of existence, nothing real. Remember, everything is imagination. Nothing real is experienced because nothing real is there. There is no truth in these kinds of experiences. This can be defined as manifestation. When the existence chooses one or the other states, changes happen. Changes appear as irreducibles, which are imaginary modes of itself, of existence. That will be called an experience, and that will be called manifestation of the potential. Hopefully it is not too airy-fairy. "How is that possible?" Now, these will be the questions. This sounds very far-fetched. This is how it is. It is completely logical. You can check it, and you can check your own experience. You are not experiencing anything real. You are experiencing irreducibles, which are imaginary. Another name for these imaginary irreducibles experiences is qualia. So, now many people are going to object, "No, there is something, it is produced by brain." And that's why I never use these words, because it ruins the fun. It is not so fun. Throw the old! This is something very fresh. I am giving you fresh eyes to look. Don't use all those words which take you nowheredead end. That's why you need to look. There is something like irreducibles. This is your direct experience. It is not true; the logic says that. Since it is not true, there is no actual manifestation. Nothing is actually witnessed, nothing is actually changing, as there is no time and allspace, time, causenothing is there. So, it can only be potential; there is no other possibility. You can check all that. Those who have done the Path of Knowledge program, or the Essence of Knowledge program, they have already established all these things, all the basics. So, they will have no problems in understanding what I say, no confusion. So, as I said, we are traveling on a branch of Path of Knowledge. So here we actually take the turn on this branch. Because potential, experience, etc., are discussed in Path of Knowledge, but now we diverge. ### Vibration, Sequence, and Time This apparent state change, the binary state change, is called a vibration. The vibration manifests for a human being as something changing in time. An irreducible or a group of irreducibles, they appear as changing, and it appears that this is happening in time. Time means sequentially. The meaning of time is sequence of events. In our philosophy, imaginary definition of something which is completely imaginary. Time is imaginary concept. There is no real time. There is no real change, also. Why does it appear like this? It is because of the memory. Now we are coming to the point. We are coming on the topic of discussion, which is memory. So, memory is another imaginary thing, and we are going to discuss it more. Right now you can understand only this much: that in the existence, there is a possibility, potential of binary state change. Only this much is there. It is apparent, and the evidence for it is appearance of change as a sequence of events, apparent events, illusory events. It's not true. So, if there is no time, how can anything change? That is the problem. So, assume! In philosophy, we assume. We imagine. We cannot know or we cannot say anything real. So, we imagine that there is a potential to form a sequence, sequence of changes. Since you can change from one state to another, you can change back. And then you can change again. So, it forms a very simple sequence, and that sequence, you can identify it now. It is a vibration. You can use any examples or concrete pictures to imagineremember, all imaginationto imagine the vibration: up and down, up and down, up and down. This is a sequence. And just like I said: -1, +1; -1, +1; then +1 for a time, then -1 for a time, then again. Any combination of these states is possible. So, this is not happening in time, but it appears as a sequence in time: events. So, we have already taken two steps: from the potential to binary state change, and from binary state change to sequence, which is called vibration. So, when this sequence is formed, it is witnessed. That is how we know that there is a potential for it. There are many names of this event that happens or appears to happen. You can call it oscillation. You can call it periodic change. You can call it primordial sound. In Sanskrit, you can call it *nada* or *spandana*. And I'm sure there must be many names for it in many languages, hundreds of names. But it is nothing. It is just a state change. The minimum possible is two states: binary. Why not one state? Because one state cannot change into itself. That will not be called a change, or there won't be any possibility to change anything, to manifest anything. So, minimum two are needed. These two must be opposite and equal so that the sum comes out to be zero, empty. This is necessary condition. It cannot be -3 and +2, and -40 and +20. No. The sum will not be zero. That will mean there is something actually, which is not possible. So, the whole, or the existence, is nothing but simple oscillations, primordial vibration. ### Characteristics of Vibrations So, now we come to this interesting conclusion: that the manifestation can happen as complex patterns of vibrations, complex oscillations, which are simply combinations of binary oscillation. You can combine all these various infinite variety of oscillations into complex waves or vibrations. That possibility is also there. Infinite potential means there will be different kinds of vibrations. What can be changed in this state change? How can we introduce the variety into the state change? Again, we use our imagination, very easy. A vibration can change in amplitude, frequency, and phase. Those who have studied science and sound and light and waves, they know all these things very well. It is very interesting that science finds that there is nothing but vibrations everywhere. You take any field of science, it is a study of vibrations. So, we are going to go there slightly later, but right now imagine that the state change can happen in magnitude or amplitude. You can have the simple state change of -1, +1. You can have -2, +2; -20, +20. So, like this, the amplitude can change. So, already we have infinite variety of vibrations because infinite amplitudes are possible. But the speed of the sequence can also change. It can change fast or it can change slow. How do we know it is fast and slow? We compare it with other vibrations. Vibration number one changed twice. By that time, vibration number two changed four times. It did that state change four times. So, comparatively, you can say that vibration number two is twice as fast as vibration number one. Remember, it is very difficult to talk about this without using the word time. I'm trying. It's very difficult. So, we use numbers. Hopefully that is okay. It is all superimposition, or you can say superposition. It is not happening in time, and nothing is really changing. So, numbers are the most pure way to talk about this. The same thing about the amplitude: when a vibration number one changes more than vibration number two, that's all can be said. So, amplitude and frequency already produce infinite variety, but there is a third way: it is called phase, which means vibration number one starts, after completing few rounds, vibration number two starts, which is exactly same as vibration number one in amplitude and frequency, but there is a gap when it starts. So, remember, these are concepts. So, if you overlay these two, you will produce a new pattern of vibration. So, we have three ways to produce infinite variation. And when you combine all these vibrations, infinite types are present already. Let's be clear about this: these all amplitudes, infinite amplitudes, infinite frequencies, and infinite phases, delays, are already present as infinite potential, not actuality. So, infinite forms are possible. Infinite patterns of vibrations are possible. This is how we prove something. It is interesting because we started with imagination, pure imagination, nothing else. Still, we found something. Now we can justify the name infinite potential. It is really infinite now; it is undeniable. There is no law or there is no way for the existence to limit the amplitude, frequency, and phase. Why there is no limit? Because they are not real. They are not true. They are not actual. They appear like this. They are imaginary. This word is very important. This word is very beautiful: it is imaginary. All these infinite forms that are possible, they are potential, and they are imaginary. If you understand this word imagination, you will face no problems in Tantra or occult. If your mind struggles to find the truth, the situation is hopeless. Remember, there is no truth. I am creating the knowledge as we are speaking. It is imaginary; there is no knowledge. That was the whole point of creating this series of Laws of Memory, because I want to tell you something shocking which no intelligent person will accept. It takes a crazy person to say something like this or even imagine something like this. These crazy people are called philosophers, scientists, or Tantrics, occultists. Their image is very good sometimes in the society. People think they are wise people; they are crazy people. Okay, so since there is no time, no space, no limit, the infinite variety is of infinite magnitude, and it is of infinite length. Length here means there is no end of it. It can go on and on and on in whatever dimension you can imaginefor example, time and space. They manifest like this sometimes. So, this much is enough about the vibration. Probably those who wish, they can add dimensionality into the vibration. So far we talked about two-dimensional vibration, but since it is a potential, you can imagine the vibration happening in multidimensional way. You can assign a direction or a dimension to the vibration. Anyway, that arises as a form of the simplest vibration, which is two-dimensional or binary. So, that's why I did not include it, but we'll talk about it when we talk about the memory patterns. Such a structure is possible now. ### Latent Memory and the Illusion of Stability So, there is a name for this infinite field of vibrations, which are potential only, and that is called the potential mind, latent mind, or latent memory. We already have memory. So, the old name for it is mind. But I said that we'll not use all these words. As you know, this word has many meanings. Immediately people will say, "No, my mind is not vibrating! It is working fine." So, we don't use these words. But when these words were invented, they had the right meaning. In Sanskrit, this will be called the *chitta*, which is not an actual mind; it is a latent mind, a potential mind. So, we are not going to use the word mind. Sometimes I use itold habitbut the new word is memory. Mind is nothing but memory. So, those who have seen my series on Vibronics on this channel, Pure Experiences, they will immediately recognize these words. They will immediately understand what I'm saying. So, if anybody is interested in knowing more about these vibrations and memory, and so on, mind and layers, they should watch the series of videos on my channel. The series is called Vibronics. Because we already have the details there, I'm not going to go into too much detail. But already there is too much detail, so let's go to memory. Memory is defined now as semi-stable vibration. This vibration, when it repeats in the same pattern, gives an appearance of stability. For example, a sound, pure tone: it is vibration, but you hear only one tone, and it is monotonous, and you stop hearing it because it's not changing. And that is an example of semi-stable vibration. It is vibrating, but still you can say that it is stable; it is in equilibrium. For example, a rotating top: if it is rotating very fast, you cannot see it; it looks stationary. So, memory derives its stability from this apparent repetition of the vibrating patterns. We call it the persistence. Anything, any pattern persists, or any irreducible imaginary experience persists because it is repeating in the same way. It is not persisting because it is same, unchanging. No. It is always changing; it keeps changing in the same way. That gives us an illusion of persistence, also called an illusion of something being there. It's very interesting. "Why is anything there?" The answer is no, there is nothing. There is an illusion of something being there, and that is due to the apparent persistence of vibrations. Because they can repeat in the same way, there is also a possibility of repeating the same pattern again and again. That gives us illusion of stability, and that is called memory. It looks like it is impressed on the existence somewherewords are meaningless hereso it is impressed, it stays there: semi-stable. So, the correct word for it, that is memory. Actually, there is a history of this word, why we chose the word memory, not anything else, not other ancient words like spell or script or symbol. Why memory? And the history goes back to Sanskrit, and the word for memory in Sanskrit is *smriti*, which comes from *mrittika*, which means sand, or clay, dirt. When you walk on sand, wet sand or clay, your footprints are imprinted on it: imprints, patterns. So, that is called *smriti*, which probably means just like this imprint on the sand: *smriti*. And that *smriti* got translated as memory. But it is justifiable. It is a very good translation, very good interpretation. The English word memory also has the same kind of meaning; it points to the same kind of event. When things are impressed, they form a pattern which persists; that is memory. So, hopefully it is clear. ### The Illusion of Knowledge and the Path Forward So, all these vibrations, potential, they form patterns of various kindsinfinite kinds, actually. They appear as memory. It is amazing, isn't it? Many people in computer science and information technology will immediately recognize what I'm talking about. These can be called information patterns. "Everything is information," somebody will say, somebody who knows all these things: information theory. So, let's go forward. Memory is impermanent. It does not really persist. Only thing is, it changes very slowly. That's why we call it semi-stable pattern, or semi-stable vibration. It is defined like this: semi-stable, because ultimately it will change. And it does some tricks to keep it goingwe are going to talk about it laterto keep the permanence going. But in the foundation of that is change, changes, because it is made up of vibrations. Vibrations are not stationary. You cannot actually see the vibration. It is, like I said, it is completely imaginary. It is a concept, theory, hypothesis, assumption. You won't be able to see it, but you can see the patterns in the memory. That is the good news. That can be called as primordial experience: irreducibles. So, what are the examples of these irreducible experiences or primordial experiences, which are nothing but patterns of vibration and memory? Colors, sounds, taste, smell, touch, emotions, something which is seen in a dream, visualization, and thoughts, and so on, desires. This is our human experience; we experience all these things. Remember, we don't experience objects. You are not happy, you are not sad; these are superimposed later on. You see, the imagination continues; it never ends. Illusion is also infinite. We go on adding layers on top of it, what is appearing. You are not looking at red or blue or yellow; these are primordial experiences. You will never see objects. You will never see good emotions or bad emotions; you will never feel them. You feel something which is very primordial; it is called irreducible. Beyond that, you cannot reduce it to simple vibrations. That is why the name: irreducible. The experience which cannot be reduced further is an irreducible experience. That is, you're witnessing the memory. Whose memory? My memory? No, no, no. There is no you. Right now we are at the level of the potential existence. All these things, they are completely imaginary. They are imagined later. We'll imagine them; don't worry. Or poetically you can say that it is the memory of the existence. More poetry, because why not? Imagination goes nicely with poetry. So, existence remembers. Existence is everything. It remembers itself as everything. Nothing appeared, so nothing goes away. So, everything stays as a memory. It is amazing. So, fortunately the existence is not a boring thingzero, empty, whatever I said before. It is infinitely potent. Infinite creation, thanks to vibrations of infinite varieties, and thanks to memory which stabilizes the experience. Now, this is complicated enough that it will give you an illusion of knowledge. Your intellect will say, "I know something now! Finally, I know something." No, don't worry. It is all imaginary knowledge. Nothing is known. Yes, you are experiencing that. Whatever was constructed below that experience is all imagination. The direct experience, you can call it as true; however, it is not true. So, we have memory, and still we don't have any objects. We have primordial experience or the essence of experience, which is impermanent, semi-stable, vibrating patterns which look like a memory. So, in the next part, we are going to arrange these patterns into layers, and so on. That will come closer to the normal experience that human beings have so that you can relate more to this idea, concept. So, more on memory in the next part. We'll continue the series on Laws of Memory.
