# Laws of Memory Part 23 Welcome to Pure Experiences. You are listening to the series on Laws of Memory. Today, we are going to discuss a very important law of memory. It is the law of evolution. ### 19 Law of Evolution This law says that in the universal, non-physical, non-mental memory, there is seen a continuous unfolding of forms. The law of impermanence says that there is change; everything is impermanent. Everything changes, comes, and goes. The law of evolution adds a new aspect on this. It says that everything changes, but some changes are meaningful. They show some kind of pattern in their change, in how they change. It is very rare that patterns appear and disappear randomly. It can happen sometimes, but usually, once a pattern appears, it does change, but it follows a law while changing. It unfolds in a specific way. We say that it evolves. The word evolution means to come out. New forms come out of the old forms. And yes, slowly everything gets destroyed, dissolved into the infinite potential from which it comes. But it does a small play, a beautiful play before it dissolves. It does not randomly change; it evolves. The evolution happens as a process of branching and pruning. When a single form appearsa pattern of vibrations in the memorythrough the law of repetition, resonance, etc., it makes copies. And due to mutations, changes in these copies, small changes, it branches out in various directions. It changes in various directions, various ways. And if you plot these varieties of change, the plot or the graph will look like a tree. The first generation will be the trunk, and then that changes into a few branches. And these branches then again change into more branches. And because of impermanence, some branches, they disappear. They are pruned naturally. And this whole tree of patterns progresses. This is the play of evolution. It can happen sometimes that something totally random happens, but it picks up from there and starts evolving. The branching starts. Tiny changes create more branches, and so the evolution looks like a tree. It is extremely complicated, so we'll go step by step and explore whatever we can using our direct experience and logic. Usually, the tendency of the forms is to become complex from simple forms. This happens because of self-organizing and self-similarity. They form copies, but these copies, they do not simply scatter awaysometimes it can happenbut they stick together and form a bigger pattern. New processes, new dependencies due to interconnectedness emerge in this bigger, complex pattern. And the whole thing then again copies and evolves again. So, simple to complex and to more complex. And in short, we say evolution produces complexities. It is a self-organizing process. Can it not produce simplicity out of complexity? Yes, it can. The process of change keeps happening. Sometimes it will devolve; the complex breaks down into simple. But normally, we do not call it devolution. The word devolution is reserved for some kind of destructive process. It is a negative word. So when it happens naturally, we call it involution, or it is folding in. It is poetic, but it is a good metaphor. Things evolve, sometimes they involve, and turn into seeds, something simple. And this evolution and involution repeats infinitely. When we say all the forms evolve, this is the law of evolution. When we say how it evolves, this is the process of evolution. There's a difference between process of evolution and law of evolution. So process itself can be of different kinds, but the law is one and the same. So we'll study a simple process which is often seen, but before that, let us clear some misunderstandings about evolution. ### Misunderstandings First thing, nobody's doing it. It seems to happen like this. The human intellect calls it evolution. From the perspective of the memory, it is simply a play: play of forms, patterns, emergence, disappearance, happening. So there is no intention behind evolution. Because everything is possible, it keeps happening. Secondly, evolution does not mean inferior becoming superior. It simply means unfolding, change, branching, appearance of varieties. That's all it means. The recent forms are not superior in any way to the older forms. It is wrong to call them superior or inferior. They are just forms. They're perfect as they are. So it is not a process of becoming superior from something which is inferior, stronger, something which was weaker. No, it is not. The reverse can also happen. If something can be called superior using some kind of criteria, the evolution can turn it into something which humans think is inferior. It's possible. Evolution is a completely neutral process, and these various colors, biases are human opinions. People say like this, mostly ignorant people. They will impose their own biases on otherwise perfectly natural process of evolution. The third misunderstanding: the evolution has a target, has a destination or end, and one day every form will become completely evolved. This is a major misunderstanding. No, it will never happen. There is no goal. It is a play. It keeps going infinitely. Like in a desert, patterns in the sand keep appearing without any purpose, without any meaning. Sometimes they are beautiful patterns, sometimes they're random, sometimes there is no pattern, just sand. Another misunderstanding is only living things, living matter evolves. That is wrong. Everything in this universal memory evolves. So a mountain is a mountain as it is right now because it evolved. It took shape slowly due to forces in the Earth, or rain, snow, wind. Everything contributed to form the current shape of the mountain. Same about rivers and so on. So from the point of view of evolution, there is no living matter or dead matter. It is all changing patterns. Yes, humans call something which is very complex and seems to be independent as living, but that is incorrect. Or it can be useful for everyday life, but there is no boundary between living and non-living from the point of view of evolution. So the non-living does not evolve and become living; it never happens like this. There is nothing which is non-living; there's nothing which is living. It is very active, dynamic memory, energy in the memory. Probably there are more misunderstandings. If I remember something, I'll add that in. ### Evolution of Memory So how does the evolution happen in memory now? This is the "how" question, which means process. Through resonance, there is replication. The law of repetition says the patterns can form infinite copies instantly in memory, so there is replication. But these patterns, they are impermanent. And since there is no time, they actually do not exist. There is nothing to make them stationary, nothing makes them stable. So they are created and destroyed. It is very difficult to imagine this without time. So we do imagine time sometimes. We stretch out the superimposed, replicated, and destroyed patterns in a timeline so that we can take a look at it, like spreading the playing cards on the table to check which card is which. Otherwise, they are packed in. So time enables this kind of separation of events in the intellect. So there is a way to keep them stable, as we saw earlier in our previous episodes, that is called dynamic equilibrium. New copies keep forming, or the same pattern reinforces itself, it grows. And when the process of destruction balances the process of growth, it becomes almost stationary. That will stay for some time. Processes of destruction, they take over, and the pattern is dissolved back, but not before the pattern makes more copies. So there is an apparent continuation of patterns, although it is simply a series of copies. Now, that would be very boring if the same pattern stays forever. So we have another process that happens, and that is mutation, as we saw earlier. Mutation means there is a fault. There is a small change in copying. Probably some other vibrating pattern joined in, or some vibrating pattern broke out of the original. This is called mutation. Otherwise, the process of replication is perfect. It produces a perfect copy because it is not physical, not mental; it is potential only. But there is a possibility of mutation. So something new appears out of the infinite possibilities. We call it a mutated copy. This copy then again replicates, produces more copies of its type, and then some of them again mutate. If this particular pattern, any pattern, if it has already established a state of equilibrium with other patterns and surroundingsthat means it is in a semi-stable stateit will continue replicating. If a mutation happens and it fails to fit into the existing equilibrium state, it will fail to copy. New patterns will overwrite it. Other patterns will consume it. Because of impermanence, if it does not form an equilibrium, a balance with the surrounding patterns, impermanence ensures that it will be destroyed. Apparent stability will not be seen there. It is by necessity; there is no other possibility. But if a mutation manages to form an equilibrium, a balance with its surroundings, with whatever is around it, whatever is trying to impose on it its own vibrationeither it balances out somehow, or it forms a new environment because it is so strong, it modifies the environment around itand that mutated pattern will also replicate and will also give an appearance of semi-stability. But yes, everythingthe original, mutations, and balanced or unbalanced, those patterns that are in equilibrium, those are notthey all disappear, but the copying continues. And this gives the characteristic branching look to the patterns. If you plot a graph, it will look like a tree, which is self-pruning. So what stays and what disappears quickly is determined by how successfully that pattern establishes equilibrium. This conclusion or finding is very important. We can underline it. The patterns that fail to form this kind of equilibrium, semi-stability, will make few copies and then get destroyed, because it's not stable. This whole process is called selection. What happens if the surrounding patterns change? Again, that pattern which was successfully stabilizing, there is an imbalance in it, the equilibrium is broken, and it is destroyed. What if a pattern is so strong that it impacts its surroundings and manages to stay up, stay stable? And yes, it will make more copies, and these copies will then transform the environment around it, transform the patterns around it, and that will change the landscape. This is also selection. Now the thing that is getting selected is the environment, not the pattern. These are very fine observations. Usually, books do not mention all these things. Remember, we are still in the non-physical, non-mental memory. These are patterns of possibilities or of vibrations, binary vibration. But once these patterns become too complex, they are arranged in layers, and they become living things. They become meaningful. They become purposeful and full of intention. Intelligence is seen in them. So we'll discuss about that, but we are still at the level of memory. So the arena where this game is being played is called the landscape, evolutionary landscape. And sometimes we call it the fitness landscape. So mathematically speaking, each pattern is trying to fit into the landscape. It is maximizing the equilibrium. It is minimizing the energy to stay in this landscape, to stay stable. Too much expenditure of energy, yes, causes imbalance, and it spins out of existence. Too little energy, something else will overtake it. So it is a struggle. And these patterns, they change, adapt, and survive in this landscape. In the event the landscape itself changes, which is possible because everything is impermanentthe law of impermanence is continuously changing the landscape alsothe patterns that adapt successfully remain there. We call them fit patterns. They fit nicely with the landscape, like puzzle pieces. And if the adaptation is not suitable, they vanish. Something else comes up. So these are the definitions: replication, destruction, mutation, selection, fitness landscape, adaptation, equilibrium, balance, survival. This is the vocabulary of evolution. ### Survival So this whole process, this dance of patterns with the landscape, environment, is called survival. Once these patterns become very complex, multi-layered, the terms change now. Now we call these processes as defense, growth, and reproduction, which you can see around you. In short, we call it DGR: Survival is equal to DGR. Once a complex pattern evolves, it evolves with some processes to keep it going, to prevent its own destruction. Obviously, if a pattern does not evolve, does not mutate into this kind of pattern, it will be destroyed. So if there are defensive processes going on inside the patternsome layers of the patternthat will ensure that it copies more, so more of it will be seen. If there are no defense processes going on, it is on the mercy of landscape completely. And when the landscape changes, all of them disappear. So through the process of selection and adaptation, defense processes arise in a complex pattern. We can call these complex patterns as organisms. Remember, we are not talking about animals or humans or anything else. Organism is a pattern in the memory; it is a layered pattern in the memory. Yes, they can appear as animals, plants, viruses, cells, or humans, or something more than humans. There are infinite kinds. But they are governed by the law of evolution. This is the amazing thing. No pattern, no creature, no organism is free from this law. So the defense, growth, reproduction, these primary survival processes will be seen everywhere. They are universal. Yes, their forms will change. The ways DGR operates will change. It will change according to the landscape and so on. So when we talk about the environment of a layer, as we defined in our previous episodes, we rename it and call it a world. The environment around a layer is called a world. It is simply non-physical, non-mental memory, and this pattern seems to be disconnected from the landscape because it is trying to not merge with the landscape. It is trying to survive, we say. It's trying to make its copies. So how does it do it? How does it achieve equilibrium? Defense is one way. It resists destruction; it resists dissolution into the environment. Another way is growth. It continuously grows. It takes energy out of the environment to balance itself, and it gives out energy into the environment to maintain that equilibrium. This is called the growth. If the growth stops, decay happens. This is the law of evolution. The growth is always there, even if we cannot see it. Even if we, let us say, we see a fully grown tree, which is a pattern in the memory, it looks like the tree is stationary, it is not growing. But if the growth processes stop, it will start decaying; it will start dying. So growth is always there. Sometimes it reaches an equilibrium and appears stationary. So there cannot be unlimited growth, because that will consume the whole environment. The balance will be completely destroyed. So balance is the key. Adaptation is the key. So growth is simply exchange of energy with the environment. It is also called ingesting, in ordinary language, eating. A pattern eats around. It consumes the environment to keep growing, but it cannot do that beyond a limit, so it achieves an equilibrium. It cannot stop consuming because that will mean decay, death, destruction. So it must maintain an equilibrium that is the growth, or you can call it maintenance. And yes, eventually the change consumes everything. So it must set up processes in itself which produce a copy of it before it destroys completely. So when that pattern is at its peak of performance, it produces copies, as many as possible. That will be called reproduction, also called genesis, generation, from which other words come out, like generator or gene, genetic. The word "gen" means to give birth. This whole process of survival plays out again and again. Law of cycles applies here, and it is a cyclic process. Many listeners must have already guessed it. We don't need a proof of it. It is happening around us. Every day we see this. Only thing is, this is a more technical description of what is happening around us. And this thing which we call human, myself, is simply a replicating pattern engaged in defense and growth. That's all it is. An impermanent play of patterns in the universal memory which is trying to survive. So it is very easy to see what happens if there is a drive, a natural tendency for the patterns to remain, to be selected naturally: they will grow more and more complex. That is why sometimes evolution appears as a journey from simplicity to complexity, because in the process of adaptation, those mutations are favored that enable survival, and it piles up very quickly. It becomes more and more complex. Totally depends on the environment around it, world. If the world is complex, yes, only complex patterns will survive, and they then evolve all these tendencies: defensive mechanisms, processes, effective growth, and then planning and intelligence appears. Intelligence appears because of evolution and pressure of survival. Intelligence demands knowledge, and so the knowledge activity starts in more evolved patterns. You can easily map this description to biological evolution now, but we are not restricted to biology. This is happening in the universal memory. You will see the same trend, same law operating, same process happening in all the worlds, all the universes. There is no escape from evolution. So what happens if these processes, they fail? Yes, destruction happens because impermanence is always against survival. Growth processes fail, so the pattern becomes more and more broken, more and more dysfunctional, and then completely breaks down. If reproduction stops, the pattern stays what it is, but since there are no more copies, the whole kind disappears eventually. Same about defense. If there are no defensive processes, other patterns consume it. So this is seen as a very strange process of trying to eat as much as they can, and trying to avoid getting eaten as much as they can, and trying to reproduce as much as they can. This madness is seen among the patterns, whether they are physical, whether they are biological, whether they are non-physical, metaphysical, supernatural, doesn't matter. This madness of survival is seen everywhere. It is not wrong; it is not negative. It is the play. This play is called life, and it is eternal. Life is eternal. These patterns, they come and go. They keep changing, they keep adapting, mutating. They are destroyed, they are copied endlessly, and this whole process is life. Life never ends. The individual patterns, they always end, always. There is no exception. Either they must stay for a long time if they are successful, the processes keep running, and if they cannot, they must reproduce a lot of times. These are two strategies to continue the stability. These are two strategies for forming equilibrium. There is a third strategy, which is, once the pattern becomes very complex, the DGR is not an issue, it is happening, but there is a lot of intelligence, knowledge in that structure, multi-layered structure. It learns the properties of landscape with which it is trying to achieve a balance, equilibrium. It comes to know some things about it, and it develops an ability to hack it, change it, modify it. It starts modifying the landscape as per its own need. This is a phase change in the story of survival. We say that evolution has taken a turn here. The tree of evolution has produced a branch which is golden, which is which has never happened before. Rare, 1% of the time this can happen. So that pattern is so powerful, has so much energy that it changes the landscape according to its need. The landscape tries to survive now. The landscape tries to defend. Landscape has an inertia, you can call it, defending mechanism in it. So for a pattern called human being, this has happened recently, that they got an ability to change their own landscape. So now the survival is not an issue for humans. They are not a puppet of landscape; they modify everything according to their needs. So there is some turn of events that has happened in otherwise very linear process of evolutionalthough it is not linearbut it was always pattern versus landscape. But now it is the pattern trying to create its own landscape according to its needs. So the story does not end here actually. Evolution continues. One day the pattern becomes so strong, so powerful that it creates its own worlds. It creates its own environment and modifies it according to its own needs. And there the world becomes a part of the creature or organism, or you can say the landscape becomes a part of the pattern, instead of the pattern being a part of the landscape. The 1% flips into 99%. The 99% of the world is organism itself. We say the world is the body of this powerful organism. Now that brings us into the spiritual territory. We have already introduced these very strange and crazy concepts. So the pattern, because it cannot grow indefinitelythere is a limit up to which the growth can happenit forms a layer above itself which keeps the essential processes alive. And once many layers are formed, there is a hierarchy of layers, functional layers. They each carry out their own function. So, for example, in human beings, we have matter, cells, organs, then the body, and then mind, and causal body above it. Probably there are more layers which I am skipping to keep the discussion simple. This is a very, very complex structure, and this is not the only one. There are probably infinite such structures, infinite kinds of layered structures in the universal memory. ### Causal Memory So a memory structure forms above this play of patterns, which is more stable. It does not store the patterns that are trying to survive in the landscape. It stores whatever happened to those patterns, and it also stores the blueprints of those patterns, all of them. This is called the causal memory. It stores all the events, experiences, whatever it learned, the knowledge, strategies, and the blueprints. This is a very good way to ensure continuity just in case lower layers are destroyed. The causal body then recreates the lower layers. That will be called a rebirth, reincarnation. And yes, they are destroyed eventually. The lower layers are in constant struggle with landscape or other competing patterns, competing creatures, things that eat it, consume it. So in case that happens, the causal body has the seed. It reproduces again, forms the same pattern again. You cannot see the causal memory, that's why there is ignorance about it. What we see is human beings or other creatures, or other shapes and forms appearing and disappearing in the world. We never see the causal body because it is non-physical. We see the effects of causal body. That is why it is called causal: it causes this drama. And yes, not all the patterns will have a causal memory, only the advanced patterns. And the process can be of various kinds. There can be a top-down process where the patterns evolve in a separated non-physical area somewhere. They collect experiences and so on, but then they descend into some other landscape to evolve further, to progress further. That is called a top-down evolution. Or there can be bottom-up where the landscape keeps producing patterns and they ultimately form a higher layer where they manage to store their experiences and knowledge later. Then the causal body evolves after the lower layers have evolved. And there can be a combination of these two, because, you see, it is all theory. We can keep guessing. Whatever explains our observation will be called a successful theory. Whatever provides us an evidence through direct experience will be called a useful or proven theory. But nothing about it is true. It is not true. There is no evolution. It is an imaginary theory. This is how it is seen, and then we imagine how it happens. This is the scientific method. And we find evidence in our direct experience. We use logic to conclude something, predict something. So I keep reminding everybody so that they should not assume that I am telling them the truth. We are in the domain of theories, hypothesis. So causal memory and all, how it is evolving, these are theories, human-created, man-made, just cooked up, imaginary. Because it is so beautiful and complicated, this provides an illusion of truth. It seems true to any logical mind. "Yes, this sounds like a good explanation of what what I'm seeing here. And I can predict what will happen. Yes." And so the theory gets an appearance of truth. It is not true. So you can go on refining the theory. You can add more processes where we don't need causal body, causal memory to explain what is going on. It is perfectly okay. Or you can add more hypotheses, more imaginary mechanisms where there is only causal body and other layers are appearing inside it. It's possible, including the world. There are such theories actually. Then the causal memory does not remain individual memory. It is not storing something which which are individual experiences. It is storing everything in that landscape. This is a huge creature. This is something really powerful, which human mind will never understand. So like this, we can have many kinds of evolutionary artifacts. That means they are product of evolution. But the law of evolution itself is really simple. It is DGR. It is by necessity. If these mechanisms and layers and complexities are not produced, nothing bad happens. The patterns remain simple patterns. They appear, disappear in trillions, 99% of time. Or nothing appears at all; everything gets destroyed. The memory returns to its own raw potential. So what happens is the causal memory develops its own intelligence and knowledge. You can assume any form of causal body here, any theory of itthere are many. This is called storage, about which we already talked in the law of action. There were two episodes on the law of action: how the causal memory is connecting all the actions. Action here means whatever this form does in the world. So the causal memory tries out different strategies: What will cause more evolution? What will cause better equilibrium, or what will make me immune from this changing landscape and other creatures and competition, struggle for survival? What will make me fit? It sends out forms in the world to try out different variations. Now this is not natural evolution, you can suspect here. It is not simple replication, destruction, selection. It is not like this now, so we give it a name. We give it a different name. This is called the directed evolution. The causal memory has now enough intelligence and knowledge so that it can direct its own evolution. We usually call these forms as evolved forms. Although every everything is evolving, in short, the more evolved forms that can direct their own evolution are called evolved, short form. And there are many names now of these evolved forms: they are higher than human, and so on, you see, parahuman, supernatural. So with this ability comes the ability to accelerate the evolution. It reaches the equilibrium or wherever it wants very quickly, instead of blind hit-and-trials of the lower forms. So now all the spiritual seekers will be delighted, because that matches with their beliefs. Everybody is trying to become like this. They want to speed up their evolution, whatever it is, whatever they want, you see. They're free. And they want to direct it towards something. They have a direction, they have a goal, they have a path. That is called a spiritual goal. So the causal body develops more, evolves more, and quickly realizesthe light bulb glows in the causal bodythat if I do it poorly, I send out all these forms parallelly, not one after the other, I can reach my goal faster. So again, the branching happens. The evolution takes a form of the branch again, and it parallelly evolves, tries out more forms, more actions, more worlds, while remaining connected to a core. And what happens to the failed ones, failed cases? Well, they are pruned out. So as above, so below: self-similarity. The causal body starts doing that which the whole memory is doing. A small part of the memory is now mimicking the whole. So a small tree starts there, tree of evolution. This will be called a lineage. So many must have already guessed, we are, human beings are in a specific lineage of causal memory. It is called the human lineage. We are evolving here. You got your purpose, you see? All those who are lost, they don't have any purpose or goals, they can see the purpose right here. If you are in the human lineage, your purpose is to evolve beyond human. The purpose of a human life is to transcend human life. So simple, so beautiful, so natural, and so logical. That is why all these theories and imaginary hypothesis have value, because they show us the direction. So the causal memory itself is evolving, but it is using a process of evolution within itself to evolve faster. You can suspect that all these causal memories, they are branches of another tree, because memory is fractal in nature. So the human lineage is a part of, a branch of a greater lineage of creatures. And they all then merge into, all the branches merge into the trunk of universal memory, which is the existence itself, the manifested existence. What is that? It is me. I am that. So I am taking all these forms, and the way to appear as in multiple forms is evolution. In short, we can say formula, a great formula: The existence is continuously unfolding into multiple forms. One is becoming many. Although it is not really becoming anything, it is all illusory form. All these forms are illusions. So you can say it is happening in the one. The way it is happening can be seen as process of evolution or the law of evolution. So seekers are interested in this kind of evolution. They they are not interested in something which the biology is doing, or minerals are doing. And that brings us into the territory of spiritual evolution. ### Spiritual Evolution What is it? How to do it? That is what we are going to talk about for a few minutes. So once the seeker, which is a pattern in the memorythe seeker is nothing specialevolves to a certain level, becomes a complex form, and directed evolution appears there, causal memory is fully formed, mature, there appears a desire to find a reason, a purpose, a meaning, and a goal. And most importantly, there is a desire to be free from evolution itself. "Why should I do this?" This question comes. "Why do I do the DGR? What is the meaning of this life: defending, growing, eating, reproducing, sleeping, slavery of the society, dependency on Mother Nature for everything? Why? What is the purpose of it?" The intelligence grows to this level that it can start asking these questions. And you can see these questions are of scientific, philosophical, and spiritual domain. They are not only restricted to DGR: "How to protect myself? How to eat more? How to eat better? How to earn more money so that I can buy more houses and more cars, or how to get more partners, make more babies, kill other people?" No, all these lower survival tendencies, they become unimportant. They are still there. They are firmly stored in the causal body, nothing to worry. But other issues, they become more important for a seeker. It is no more a struggle for survival; now it is a struggle for meaning and purpose. So the seeker wants to find the truth: "What is true now? What is happening? Tell me." Goes to a teacher or a guru, because hopefully the guru has found out already. And once you know the truth, your eyes open. It is called awakening. No more asleep, no more a puppet of survival, evolution, blind evolution. And the seeker can now do the evolution purposefully. It is something more than directed evolution, because directed and parallel evolution is also a strategy for DGR only. The purpose is only that. But now this evolution has a higher purpose, we say. We call it higher purpose, which is utilizing a higher intelligence and higher knowledge, spiritual knowledge. The evolution that happens after this will be called conscious evolution. Why conscious? Because now the decisions to evolve are taken consciously. There is a higher form there. It is probably something bigger than the causal body itself, but we don't know. Humans have a very little idea. So we rely on something which is more than human: the ascended masters or the great gurus. And we consult them. Very easy, very easy. Just go to the great master, ask for conscious evolution. You will get the whole plan. They have already done it. Many have done it. Uncountable are evolving consciously. But yes, uncountable are totally mechanical, but we don't look at them. They are 99% for us. We look at the 1%. If you recall our last discussion of 1%. So what do we do actually if you want to evolve consciously? There are only a few obstacles. The first obstacle is "I don't know," not knowing. Ignorance is the first obstacle. The second obstacle is "I don't have a guide," simple. And the third obstacle is no desire to evolve. "I want, but please somebody else do it for me. Give me a 10-minute video. Just tell me how to do it in one day." This shows there is no desire. And there can be more obstacles which are called impurities, like not having a good body, not having a good family or country or society, and not having good enough intelligence or skills to even approach a guru, or to even think about these, or to even understand what videos or lectures like these are talking about. If these abilities are not there, we call them obstacles or impurities. Sometimes we say that the seeker lacks qualities, qualities of a seeker. And so they become obstacles in spiritual evolution. Although the causal body has grown a little bit, still it needs to grow more. The right time has not arrived yet. So for those who are ready, who are ripe, they are picked by the masters actually. They go and find these newly evolved patterns, complex creatures, and they bring them into spiritual evolution. So to remove all those obstacles and impurities, we need something called purification, which is simply a system of practices, spiritual practices, that causes either readiness for spiritual evolution, or directly causes spiritual evolution, especially as soon as knowledge is there. Which knowledge? Yes, the most important knowledge is self-knowledge, self-realization: Who am I? Without it, there is no possibility of spiritual evolution. Without it, that pattern or that creature will think that this disposable matter, human body, is me; it needs to evolve. So they will direct their evolution towards more eating, more pleasure, avoidance of pain, and so on, more reproduction. So greed, lust, jealousy, anger, these will be prevalent in those people. Lower qualities will be seen in those people. So lying, deception, selfishness, all these will be characteristics when when there is no self-realization. They want something, they want a better life, they want evolution, but the capability arrives only with self-realization. Where will it happen? On path of knowledge, nowhere else. All other paths, they purify the seeker so that self-knowledge arrives finally. Knowing myself opens the door of spiritual evolution or conscious evolution. So there are things that can help: purification, seeking knowledge, spiritual knowledge of the highest kind. This knowledge, laws of memory and all, that is also helpful, but that is not sufficient. You need the essential knowledge, self-knowledge. And the knowledge of what this memory is, what this illusion is, all these things are needed: Why it is only one? Why am I not separate? Because as long as you assume yourself as a separate individual which is struggling to survive, there is no possibility of conscious evolution, because spiritual evolution or conscious evolution means evolution of the whole. This goes in stages. First you concentrate on the evolution of the individual, then on the evolution of the lineage, as we defined just now, then the evolution of the causal body, and the whole tree, whole tree of life. It is all life; everything is life. That means focusing on the various aspects of evolution, not only my evolution. It is now an inclusive evolution, not exclusive. It is not based on competition and struggle for resources; it is based on cooperation and love, giving, not taking, not snatching. So that kind of transformation, the 180-degree shift, happens only in a spiritual seeker, nobody else. This possibility is available for human beings. Fortunately, we are in that club; we have the membership of that elite club of creatures that can proceed to spiritual evolution right now if they want, if there are no obstacles, no impurities. They can do it today. All you need is a guide or a teacher, or a master, or a guru, or whatever you want to call it: friend, kalyāṇa-mitra, spiritual friend. And you can take your first step in the domain of spiritual evolution. So since it is inclusive, service is mandatory. Service means simply helping my own parts, the branches which are branching out of me, to evolve. They can be lower forms, they can be stupid humans, they can be retarded, lowly creatures of every kind, but we need to bring them up. So you can see the importance of all the spiritual concepts: gurus, purification, self-knowledge, service, love, cooperation. All these very great ideas which were taught to us by none other than all these masters, gurus, they suddenly make sense. They shine in the light of law of evolution. So probably after law of action, law of evolution is the second most important for a seeker. You must know it. You must know it intimately. Study more, because we are limited by time and because if I talk too much, it becomes boring; everybody becomes sleepy. So we are going to proceed to the ways to rise above evolution. ### Rising Above Evolution And you can immediately see that this is a stupid idea. Why would I not want to evolve? So rising above evolution does not mean some kind of stagnation, entering some kind of steady state. It means leveraging the evolution to progress higher. You rise above evolution using evolution. You ride the wave of the evolution; you float on the tide of the evolution. So instead of hindering the process of evolution, contribute to the process. That is one way to rise above evolution. Adapt, change, mutate according to the need, and also reshape your environment according to your needs. This will cause rapid evolution. Those who do not adapt, they get destroyed. These patterns do not survive; they do not form a balance because of inability to change. You must know where you are going, otherwise what will you change? So there must be some goal, some aim. And for an individual, the goal is simply a goal of current life. Probably many don't know all these things, so they are directionless. You must choose a direction, and the direction must be always towards progress, always towards positive evolution, not devolution. Do not choose devolution, stagnation. They are destructive. You will be destroyed completely, including the causal body. It's not something magical; it also gets destroyed. But that can happen quickly if whatever it is sending in into the world does not cooperate. Your higher self has sent the lower self in this world to take the experiences and evolve. This is the language of crazy spiritual people, but very easy to understand now. It is simple language. Instead of talking about all these memory patterns and mathematics and so on, this is simpler and makes sense. So the lower self must now contribute, fully knowing that I'm not going to last here. It's impermanent life, but the higher life continues; it never stops. There is no death. So a directionless immortality is like hell. You must give it a direction. So what happens when you evolve like this? You rise above the evolution, start changing the landscape yourself, directed evolution, start sending parallel lower selves into various worlds in various forms. What happens? You get a power to control not only the body-mind machine, but also the world. Sometimes the whole world is created just to get some experience, to evolve. They preside over the world. They're very powerful entities. You get all those powers. So I know many seekers are running after power, but that is a fantasy, daydream. You won't get anything unless you evolve, and this human being never gets any powers. The powers reside in causal body, or even higher, we don't know. When a lower form is sent out in the world, it is sent out with enough powers so that it can survive. For example, a human creature, human form, already has some powers: it has survival abilities, obviously; it has power to think, intelligence; power to talk, speech; power to communicate, and so on; form societies, writing systems, science, arts. And some of these humans have power to love, cooperate, help others, teach othersvery few, but they haveto influence positively the environment, landscape. And many have destructive powers, as you can see, and I need not talk about them, but they are also powers. So we already arrive with some powers, and as we evolve, we get more. If you don't evolve, if you misuse these powers or we devolvesee, the word devolve here is now meaningful because it is a destructive word. It is not involution; it is a shooting in the foot kind of thing, suicidal. So misuse of what whatever abilities or powers we have causes instant devolution. That branch will be pruned; it will be cut off. Those who are very selfish, yes, cut off, completely. Those who are hateful, angry, cut off. No more birth actually. Their birth happens in a lower form sometimes, and that is a different story actually, which simply means the powers are reduced. And as soon as the powers are reduced, the form reduces in complexity. More powers means there are there are advanced forms, advanced entities are produced. So I'm not going to go there. Probably everybody already knows all those stories. I'm just telling you the essential reason behind it, the mechanism of all these powers and siddhis: "How come somebody is so powerful?" sometimes we ask. The answer is easy: they're evolved. They have millions and millions of, eons of experience in their causal body, just like I said. Not only experiences and knowledge, all the blueprints are also saved there, including the whole memory of all the lifetimes. The causal body is not a small thing; it has sections in it. It is very huge. But I cannot tell you everything in this short video. So if you want powers, evolve. Whatever I said under the section of spiritual evolution is the method. The method is proven, the method is time-tested, it works, only for those who have a desire to evolve, not for man on a street. Ordinary people don't have this desire. They will also evolve, but not like a seeker. They will get some powers, but not the spiritual powers a seeker has. So some people are running after powers, but they are stupid. Run after evolution; you will get everything. And you will also know how to utilize these powers to speed up the evolution, otherwise they are destructive, they will cause devolution. So listen to the master, otherwise there is no hope of rising above evolution. These words will become only words, words, words, word soup. Many people will simply laugh it away, throw it in the trash, because for an unevolved person, this kind of teaching sounds complete BS. It is not useful for them; they throw it away. Because they are at a lower level of evolution, you tell them how to earn more money, how to get more women, how to impress somebody, how to climb the political ladder, now they are interested. So it takes some evolution, natural evolution, to rise above the evolution, to reach the level of spiritual evolution. What to do about all these people? It looks like I am simply insulting them. No, it is the bitter truth. I'm warning you that check your level of evolution first. Do not run here and there like a mad person. Yes, seekers are crazy, but you should have some kind of intelligence. Before you decide what to do, check what needs to be done. And once you reach a higher level of evolution, do not hate these less-evolved forms. They are your forms! Who knows, we are all in the human lineage, that means they are all my forms. Even at the level of illusion, we are all connected, related, branches of one tree. Yes, you will become something more than human, but you will never leave the branch, unless it becomes so rotten that we cut it off. There is less possibility of that; still it is possible. So our attitude towards less-evolved should be of love, compassion, kindness, pity. Take as many as you can with you once you reach a higher place. That is true evolution. Evolution is always inclusive. It is not a selfish pursuit of some powers or some crazy forms, crazy experiences. No, that is stupidity. So hopefully, it will give you some initial material to explore the law of evolution more, because there is more. There is always more. In all of my episodes that I that I've produced on laws of memory, there is always more to talk about, there is always something more to teach. It is endless, actually. So we'll continue our discussion on the last law of memory in the next episode.
