The Waves And The Deep

When we as seekers begin to get the evidence and experience of The Knowledge for ourselves it can be quite an exciting time. As the puzzle pieces come together we may innocently attach ourselves to some incorrect ideas of what life with Self-Knowledge will be like. Perhaps we imagine some perfectly happy and euphoric state will never leave us. Anything is possible, but from my own limited experience it isn't quite like this. Yes, there may be moments of joy, happiness, euphoria, and being pleasantly intoxicated with Love, but none of this is the point. Along with these moments of pleasure it is wise to also expect moments of pain. As our resistance, defense mechanisms, and ignorance are dropped we may experience pains we have avoided for a long time. We may also become more sensitive to the vibrations in our environment. Although it can be challenging, this is not a bad thing, nothing at all to fear, and is also not the point. We come to know that we are none of these experiences, these fluctuating states that come and go. As we come to understand ourselves as The One experiencing all of these changes, our resistance and our suffering becomes less and less. Progress is not known by everything magically working out just how wed always hoped, but by being perfectly happy and unconcerned even when it doesn't. Life becomes much more of a play, a game. We can be intensely involved in the game, while also knowing and being rooted in The Reality. Life is like an ocean. Up until now we have only known the waves. When there was a storm, the storm was all we knew. We rise and fall, go this way and that, get tossed on the waves and find ourselves on some unexpected shore. Perhaps we sense there is more, yet everywhere we look we find more of the same ups and downs. By Grace eventually we come into contact with The Knowledge and find out that more is actually less. The Knowledge shows that underneath the surface there are deeper movements and currents. Underneath these currents there is a vast & quiet stillness that is never disturbed. We come to identify with that vast stillness, The Experiencer, the pure subjectivity to which all of these appear. This may not be a perfect analogy but it is experienced that as the storms and sunny days alike come and go I remain ever myself, complete, still, and unchanging, As the tides of the mind push and pull I am ever undisturbed. There may be joy and there may be pain and I am The One experiencing both. As such I am free of both. A seeker is free to experience the waves fully, while also knowing that they are only a temporary appearance. I Am the unchanging stillness in which, to which, and through which these fluctuations appear. So do not fret my fellow travelers, the tides of life will happen. Enjoy them as best you're able and of course do what you must. Only remember who you are and that truly there is nothing to fear. Events and circumstances, the excitement and storms of life, will pull you into your old patterns. Nothing to worry about, it will happen! As the storm settles you will again remember that this play of waves is simply an appearance of the surface, and that even a hurricane can be no threat to the ocean that I Am. Be the Ocean. Enjoy the play of the waves even as you rest knowing the stillness of the deep. Peace.
