# Laws of Memory : Part 03 ## Senses, Worlds, Bodies, Individual --- ## Introduction to Memory: Pure Potential Welcome to Pure Experiences. This is a series on Laws of the Memory. We will continue our discussion on memory. What are the characteristics of memory? What does it do? How does it look like? In very short, we can describe memory as pure potential. It is not a physical thing, and it is not a mental event also. Physical things means rocks, bricks, water, houses, table, chair, even bodies. Mental events or mental phenomena: feelings, emotions, thoughts, desires, imagination. Memory is not any of these things. It does not belong to our everyday categories. So what it is? It is the substance of these categories. Memory is the basic element out of which all the physical, mental, and anything else, any experience is formed. So we call it non-physical and non-mental, so that you remember memory is not something physical or mental. Your everyday recall of memory is something different. It is mental event. The experience of you recalling and memorizing and remembering is an experience that is being produced by our non-physical, non-mental memory. So it is the substance of all experience. Or you can say it is the essence. ## The Dynamic Nature of Memory So what does it do? Memory itself is not a thing, or itself is not a process, but all the things appear in memory, and all the processes happen in memory. So it is simply semi-stable vibrations, and these vibrations and their patterns, series, or sequences, they emerge as memory. They form the memory. So you can immediately see that memory is not static. It is dynamic. It is always in motion. It is always changing. Do not confuse it with any kind of physical memory, like a book, or a CD, or memory in the computer where once something is impressed, the impression remains static. That is a memory, it's a different kind of memory. That is a physical memory. The NPNM memory is vibrations. That means it is process plus impression. There is no separation between processing and contents of the memory. This is very important thing to know. ## Processes of Memory: Copying and Resonance So memory is seen as any experience that is emerging out of patterns of vibrations. It is dynamic, not static. And the memory itself is not physical and not mental. So what does it do? What are these processes? So we are going to study them in detail. Right now, I'm giving you a few examples of processes, and the memory does some activities. You can roughly say that it is doing that, but they are happening. The first is copying of vibrations through resonance. If there is a regular vibration which is of high magnitude, and there is also somewhat irregular, broken vibration, which is weak, low magnitude, then through resonance of vibrations, that stronger pattern gets impressed on the weaker pattern, or the weaker pattern assumes the shape of the stronger pattern. This is, you can say, copy or reproduction. It copies itself. There is no limit to how many copies it can make, because it's all virtual. There are no physical, mental, or any other kinds of limits. So infinite copies appear in split seconds. It can happen like this. The memory is responsible for persistence of vibration patterns. You can suspect that this is happening by copying the patterns. The patterns persist because they copy onto themselves. They keep copying themselves, that's why they repeat. The pattern has appeared, but because it is impermanent, changing, it disappears. But before that, it copies itself. And that gives rise to an illusion that it is the same pattern. If it happens very quickly, nobody can suspect that something was destroyed there. This is very amazing. You can say it is the power in the memory. ## Evolution and the Cycle of Creation and Destruction So persistence or repetition of patterns causes the illusion of stability. The basic mechanism is, again, copying, or you can theorize like this: guess, imagine. What happens if it cannot copy, or something else gets copied there? That will be called destruction. So you can see the basic survival mechanisms are already emerging. Very basic. This is not even physical or mental right now. Copy, reproduction, persistence, growth, maintenance, destruction, death. You see our imagination is not totally useless. It has the power to explain everything. We just explained the complete life of a creature. Because what are these creatures and complex forms? They are patterns of vibrations in memory. Many people must have guessed by now, we are constructing the theory by looking at our direct experience, our daily experience. It is it is not magic, although it has magical powers, you can see. We started so simple that looked like totally useless activity of the existence, but it is foundation. So through repeated copying, persistence, destruction, different patterns emerge. Some get destroyed, some get enforced, some copy a lot, some change and then copy. So this is our familiar process of evolution. It is the exploration of the space of patterns. How big is the space of patterns? Infinite. So the evolution is infinite. You can say that there is a tendency in memory to give rise to complex patterns out of simple patterns. And there is an opposite tendency also. The complex patterns do not stay, that is the property of the memory, nothing stays. So however persistent that is, it is dissolved. They become simpler and simpler and then disappear. So we can directly see now construction and destruction, creation, dissolution. This is a big power of memory. So it is not simply construction and devolution, it is construction, evolution, and devolution and destruction. And then again the cycle starts, because it is a repeating pattern. So we'll talk more about that, but right now I'm giving you an idea what this memory is. It is the biggest thing in the universe. ## Knowledge and Ignorance So memory stores patterns. Some patterns are helpful for evolution, survival, copy, persistence, and so on. They help in carrying out these activities, so they are favored. These patterns decide what will happen. They decide the actions. And that is called knowledge. They are processes or stored patterns in memory that help in activities of the memory, specially in the construction, creation. That will be called knowledge. So knowledge is nothing, it is the collection of patterns in memory. If they are helpful, these patterns will be called knowledge. They are carried through the process of copying, persistence, and all, because they are helpful, sometimes they are necessary. You can see the DNA is a kind of pattern that copies, and there is knowledge in DNA how to construct the creature. It's a simple example. But there are some patterns that are destructive. They help to destroy the complex patterns, convert them into simple. Because destruction looks like a negative word, it is not negative, it is just a function of the memory. The negative-positive is superimposed by human beings due to their biases. So ignorance, this word is chosen because it is opposite of knowledge, so ignorance is a pattern that destroys a complex pattern, causes death. So it is not a helpful pattern according to humans. It is contributing to the eternal dance of the memory. So now it must be crystal clear what is happening in the existence. Memory makes us understand. This concept of memory, it is imaginary. It gives us very solid foundation, structure to understand what is going on in this existence. ## Emergence of Laws and Freedom So once a structure is formed through knowledge or whatever, patterns, and evolves, it restricts the vibration patterns. The vibration patterns are restricted because they cannot do anything else. If they do something else, they are destroyed. So they're bound. This dependence, or the repetition of the same processes and the same events, gives an illusion of a law. So we are back to the topic: Laws of the Memory. Those who are wondering why we are talking about all these imaginary things like memory, vibration, the law cannot be understood if you don't understand memory. So when the memory evolves enough, forms a meaningful structure full of knowledge, it appears to humans as a law, because nothing else will be seen as happening. It won't diverge from its specific set of behavior. That set of behaviors emerges out of the structure of the memory. That will be called a law. Not only one law, there will be many. So you can already see that there can be infinite laws. So the universe is not bound by laws, it produces its its laws. The existence is free. The structures in the existence, they give us an illusion of being bound by the laws, rules defined by these structures. But the good news is there are infinite kinds of structures, so it is not really bound. Nothing is bound. Everything is free already. You also see the significance of knowledge: it is directly related to memory. And you can see the significance of ignorance also: it is useful in destruction. The same knowledge and ignorance can take higher forms and they appear in humans also. Knowledge causes growth, evolution, progress, development; ignorance causes destruction, devolution, regress, and suffering. All these patterns of memory and the processes of the memory, they are manifested at higher orders. We are going to talk more about that, because we are going to check each and every law that we can check, that human beings can have access to, although there are infinite. This is the logical conclusion of our discussion. I am not making this up now. Now our discussion is more and more bound by logic of what we already imagined. So the structure of knowledge is forming now. ## Hierarchical Layers in Memory So what does it do, memory? You got in got a very broad idea, rough idea. Memory does one more thing: through evolution, it forms bigger and bigger structures, but there is a limit to how much the vibrations and the knowledge stored there and the processes can handle the big structures. There are some limits. The limit is obviously impermanence, because if you want to maintain a big structure, you start maintaining from this point, but by the time you reach the distant processes and structures, they have already disappeared. So there is a speed limit about which we'll talk later. How the resonance can maintain a large structure, the process of maintaining is limited by some kind of limit on how much they can maintain, how fast they can restore everything. The knowledge processes, self-maintaining processes, or the the processes that help in persistence of the patterns. So the memory has a very intelligent way to overcome this limit. The memory organizes in layers, a hierarchy. So if there is a limit to something, some structure, the structure simply takes one step above itself and forms another layer, or you can say management. So management and a factory, or a government, they are very good examples of layers, or you can say they are metaphors to understand how why memory decides or it happens, actually, nobody's there to decide, why it happens that memory organizes in layers. So let us take an example of a factory. You have 10 workers, you are the owner of a factory. Probably you can manage 10 workers very easily. But the factory grows, and you hire 100 workers. Now you don't even remember their names, don't recognize them by faces, you don't know who is doing what. So first thing you do is you hire five people who can manage these 100 workers. Now you need to manage only five people. And if your company grows and there are 1,000 workers, then you construct one more layer of management, and you organize them according to different functions. One will do production, the second will marketing, the third will be human resources, and payments, retirements. So the company grows, the business grows, factory grows. The whole structure is growing, still manageable. But yes, one person or the same group of person, without any owner, without any manager, they can manage themselves, three or four people, they can team up. But when it is thousands of people, only a hierarchy can sustain that kind of structure. The same thing happens in memory. If the structures become too complicated, bigger or higher structures appear, which manage, they evolve. The things which are which cannot be managed, obviously, they get destroyed: impermanence. Various kinds of vibrating patterns arrange in layers of memory. You can call them the strata of memory: dense, then less dense, then even less dense, and so on. And you can see that the power of these is different. The highest will have the highest power, the lowest will be workers, slaves. ## The Universal Mind and Cycles of Activity So this structure has an old name, it is called mind, or chitta, just like I told you in the last episode. It is mind. There can be only one mind. Do not confuse it with a human mind, that is a outdated definition, it is meaningless. There is only one mind. It is the universal mind, which is simply the universal memory. Because there is only one existence, you cannot have many, because existence is defined as everything. So logically it is not possible to have many everythings. It's meaningless word. So there is only one, and there is only one potential. You cannot even count it, it is zero. And so it gives rise to only one instance of memory. It's all one. So not only is the existence one, it is one at the level of memory also. There is one mind, that is the whole existence. Manifested existence is one mind. How big is that? It is infinite. How small is that? It is zero, it is nothing, according to humans. We don't understand what it is, so we can only imagine and try to find evidence of our imagination. So far, it is working, isn't it? Our imagination was not totally useless. So just like the factory owner divides the hierarchy into functional groups, the memory automatically arranges itself in functional layers. Different functions separate out, like different organs in a body. Body is also a layered structure, and it is a very good, excellent metaphor of layers of memory. So whatever these layers do, that is called an activity. You can say action. And these activities, they are circular. They repeat. They go in cycles, because that is the function, that is the basic nature of vibration. They keep repeating. They go go in circles, up, down, up, down. So whatever is formed out of these vibrations will naturally repeat. Just like a watch, which the traditional, the old, ancient kind of watch, where there are gears inside it, they keep spinning. And so the final outcome, the time that the watch is telling you, is circular. It repeats, same way. So that is called an activity. It repeats, and it is doing some kind of function in some kind of layer. So there can be infinite layers, theoretically, and there can be infinite activities. ## States of Mind and Essential Unity So once a structure is formed, it wants to maintain itself, because if it cannot, then impermanence destroys it. It is all fleeting. So to maintain itself, some of the activities are necessary. And these groups of activities, they are called states. So we have very clear definitions now. State of the mind, what do you mean by that? You know now, what do you mean by that. They are simply a group of activities that is maintaining the structure. That is called a state. A well-known state is a human state of waking, your waking life. There are more, like dreaming, sleeping, and so on, but right now you can understand only waking. What is active here? The whole layers of body, activity of the body: digestion, breathing, and so on, you see. Mental layers, they are active. So all these activities going on, tremendous amount of activity, that is just one state: waking state. So the body and this whole structure, it cycles through states. Another cycle, it is cyclic. So the whole thing, whole phenomena of states, it keeps changing. It is not stable, it is not stationary, although it is called a state, but it's not stationary. States come and go, and they repeat. They repeat till the structure is there. So how many states can be there? Again, as many as is needed for that function of the structure: infinite. So infinite vibrations, infinite layers, infinite functions, infinite activity, and infinite states. So how do we know all these things? Well, we have direct experience of that, fortunately, finally. You can call it the human being, one of the kind of structure, human structure. Although, just like I said, there is only one mind, there is only one memory, and these structures which appear as a human, body-mind machines, they are part of this whole. They appear separate, but they are not separate. For example, the thoughts in your mind appears that they are separate. One thought goes, the other comes, and this thought is different from that thought. But what what is that? That is the activity of your memory. It's very simple. It is not different. They appear different. So you can see that human beings are simply activity of memory. They appear different, they are all one, essentially. So without going into the path of knowledge and all that philosophy, non-dual philosophy, and so on, simply by studying the layers of memory or memory itself, we see the unity. ## The Field, the Akashic Library, and the Guru Field Actually, it is impossible to have parts, divisions in memory, because it's not physical. Only physical things have boundaries, divisions which which are apparent. There are no actual boundaries to anything. We'll see why that is. We'll talk about it more. It's very interesting. So if you think I am a human being, you are a very good example, excellent example of memory and its layers, and so on, activities, states, functions, so on. But always remember, it is illusory part of the whole. There is a illusion that this is a separate thing, as it is useful to assume that it is separate, but it is part of the, or you can say it is a function of the universal memory. It is called the universal mind. And the universal memory is known by many names. So memory of existence is one name which we already used, sea of vibrations. It is also called akashic memory, which means the memory of the sky, or memory of the space. Everything is space, like empty, there is a memory there. Or it is called the Akashic Library. This term is used for a specific area of the universal memory where a specific kind of knowledge is stored. Remember the definition of knowledge, just now I told you? Helpful patterns in the memory. Ignorance: unhelpful patterns in the memory. So Akashic Library will be some part of the memory, or a function of the memory, where a specific kind of knowledge is stored. You can also call them fields. Many people call them fields. Field is something in which something grows, grows and harvested and destroyed, dries out. The memory can be called a field. So there are many fields classified according to their functions, and these fields, they store specific kind of knowledge, specific kind of patterns. Corresponding to those patterns and knowledge, there are specific kind of rules. Rules come out of structure itself. Mind is the law. Law is the mind. Many people must have heard this thing. In a field you will find specific kind of laws. Right now we are in a specific kind of field of memory. It is called physical world, although it is not physical, it is memory. So that is another Pandora's box: what is this physical world? We are going to talk about it little bit. Once you know one world, you will know all the worlds. That's mostly the there are same laws, universal laws. So another good example of the field is the guru field, where all the spiritual knowledge is stored. We use this word a lot in our program, in our meetings, discussions, videos. So probably for the first time you got this insight, or detailed knowledge of what this thing is: guru field. ## Senses as Transducers and Measurement This is my intention behind creating this series, because I know everybody knows laws by heart. They have they have even memorized the names of those laws, but nobody knows what it is. So there can be infinite kind of structures, substructures, and functions, subfunctions inside the memory, but we are interested in some of them, and we can only know some of them. We are very limited, human beings. We can even imagine a little bit, not too much. Our imagination is governed by our memory. Think about it. We cannot imagine too much. Whatever we see outside, whatever we perceive, our imagination becomes limited by that. And we can go one or two steps, yes, that's okay. We can relax that law. We can say, 'Yes, I can imagine a few more things, extrapolate.' That's all we can do. With this limited kind of imagination, we'll get limited kind of knowledge, and we'll be able to witness some limited structures. So we pick something which is important for us, specially for a spiritual person. So a very important structure in the memory is called a sense. The definition of sense is: it converts one kind of vibration into another kind. One kind can be anything, any pattern, and the other kind can be anything, mostly it is knowledge. Mostly senses convert a sea of patterns into a small, compressed, distilled pattern of knowledge. So many people must be hearing this definition for the first time in their life. Yes, senses, in electronics, you can call them transducers. They convert one kind of vibration into another kind, like microphone is converting sound into electricity. But the microphone does not end there. There are more structures in the electronics that filter it out, limit that electrical signals, and then convert it into digital format. It is all one sense, you can say, it is one sense, although it is many functions in one. So what happens is is that sound which was vibrating in the air and was momentary, totally impermanent, was converted into some information. It took a form. Remember the meaning of the word 'information'? To give it a form. So it took a form, that form can be imprinted in the memory. Right now it is imprinted in the memory of the PC, or phone, or YouTube server. And my voice cannot be stored directly. It will disappear in the air, movement of the air. ## Measurement, Tanmatra, and Maya These senses, they are structures, they are itself in the memory, and they are very important. They create the knowledge. Without senses, there is no knowledge. You won't know anything. Even if there is infinite amount of vibrations there, without senses no knowledge is possible, nothing will be known. So the senses limit the vibrations. These limited forms are meaningful, they are information, and they are stable. They are not momentary, or you can say semi-stable. So senses measure what is there. The senses perform a measurement of what is out there, but in doing that, they limit what is out there. So they they are like windows. You can take the metaphor of the body, our senses are like windows which open to the external environment, and they limit whatever is coming in inside the body or mind. But that makes the organism survive, otherwise there is no chance of survival. So the organism or the system where the senses are functioning becomes enclosed in a bubble of its own knowledge. You can say that knowledge now looks like ignorance, because it is not knowledge of everything. It's not possible. So the whole knowledge is nothing but a limited or useful ignorance. So senses are actually performing measurement. This is a very big word. The measurement brings the experience into existence. The measurement creates the experience. This is actually a law of the memory. Without measurement, there is just an infinite potential, which is equal to emptiness. See how important this thing is. A measurement is called matra in Sanskrit, from which English words like 'meter', etc., are derived. And whatever the senses are providing, the raw experience, the basic experience, is called the tanmatra, which means exactly that: basic experience, or the tiniest, irreducible experience. So what we are doing as human beings, that we are measuring the field of memory using the senses, instruments of senses. In doing so, we form a model of the world in our own mind, in our own memory. This it is simply constructed out of measurement by the senses. It's not real. It is illusory world. But it is helpful, it keeps that structure alive, the human structure persists. ## The World Model as Illusion Another name for measurement, because it gives rise to illusion, is maya. Maya is simply memory measuring itself and giving rise to an illusory experience. How beautiful that is! So many secrets are out now. The dance of the maya is nothing but measurement. Why are our experiences limited? Because of senses, because of this measurement. And we cannot measure everything, that is illogical. It's not also needed. And that is why our experience is limited, we are limited as structures. Moreover, that experience is completely fabricated. We are not measuring something which is exactly out there. No. It is totally filtered, changed, transformed, transduced. Then what is out there? There's nothing. I told you, there's nothing, it's just sea of potential. So measurement collapses the potential into actuality, which is simply another illusion. That knowledge and whatever is produced by senses, not only illusory, it is impermanent, it does not last. But because of some tricks of the memory, wherever there is memory, there is intelligence. The intelligence arises. Intelligence is universal intelligence, not human intelligence. It arises in any complex system. So due to this intelligence, all the knowledge and memories and all whatever, they get copied again and again. It keeps copying it. So, bad news, but there is good news, yes. There is always a duality of good news and bad news in our studies. So whatever causes survival, these three processes to function: copying, persistence, and destruction, that is favored by the structure, and that is responsible for what kind of experience there will be. Remember, it is all an illusion. So what is being experienced? Now you know the answer. It is something which is already infinite field of potential, they're getting limited. So whatever that is, you see, the model that we formed of out of measurements is called a world. Remember, it is not something which exists somewhere out there and you are in it, no! The definition of world here, in our philosophy, is an illusion created by senses. It is not useless, it is a very good model that helps in these basic survival activities. Very useful. Without this world, there is no organism, there is no pattern of vibrations to exist. So what is being measured is a layer, or many layers sometimes, a group of layers that are beneficial for survival. Senses evolve to measure it, to sense it, and the world can be assumed to be whatever exists in that layer. And obviously random things are not sensed, they are filtered out, they are not useful. So the structures in the layer are sensed. I know this is very difficult to understand right now, but you can take the metaphor of our physical world where human beings are right now, you and me. That is a layer, or that is a combination of many many layers, and the senses are sampling it, senses are sensing or measuring it. These are layers, we call it a world: physical world. ## Infinite Worlds and Changing Senses So worlds are a specific part of the layered structure of memory, which needs to be sensed. It does not actually exist. It is like a virtual reality. The data comes in and whatever senses are telling is experienced. They are experienced in the form of irreducibles. This sensory data is arranged by the intelligence and knowledge in the structure, in the memory, and that will be called a world model, that is helpful in survival. All these objects, bodies, people, food, trees, mountains, whatever shapes and forms that you see, they are arrangements of sensory data. They are not real, but they are helpful. It appears like this, it is an illusion. So whatever is surrounding that structure right now, senses, is an environment of the sense, and probably there is a need to act on the environment, like feed, or protect, sense something. So that becomes the world. And just like everything else, the world is a pattern in memory, and it is also semi-stable. You can see it: the physical world is not stable, it changes every second. So the speed of change is variable. Some patterns will change quickly, some will not, but it gives an illusion of permanence because it is a memory. So how many worlds can be there? Obviously, because everything is infinite, the structure can be infinite, there can be infinite number of worlds. 'No, no, I see only one.' No, you can see any any number you want, provided there is a you. That is the puzzle: there is no you. So it makes no sense that I see something. I don't see anything, because there is no I. There is only the structure, and it will see whatever it requires to see. The senses are formed depending on the requirement. Requirement is survival. So infinite can be seen? Yes, it is not totally hopeless case for humans. If you change the senses, you will see different worlds. That can happen in, let us say, dreams. A different world appears out of a limited memory, limited knowledge, that can be called local memory. Sometimes I call it local memory. Out of the world model, something is produced, that is a different world, small world. Same way, if you restrict the senses which you are used to, and activate some other senses, you can produce it on command, actually, that way you can witness other worlds, other places in the field. That is what a tantrik is doing, an occultist is doing: trying to know or sense something else, something more than our usual, plain, boring world. They are not happy with this world. So the secret that is given away is senses. Study the senses, and you will control everything. You will control who you are, you will control the worlds. It is just an illusion in the mind. It is possible to change it. Control means you can change it. So I'm not going to give you more secrets, because we are running out out of time. The illusion of time is running out. ## Bodies, Energy, and Power So there are some structures which are necessary for survival and action, there are some states and activities that are very necessary. Those structures will be called bodies. These are the structures which are responsible for survival. So they are also part of the layer, although I always say that there are no parts, but we assume that it is a part of the layer. It's separate, somehow, it's not separate, which is instrumental in maintenance or persistence of the structure, that is called a body. Usually senses are hosted in the body. Usually senses are part of the body. It's not necessary, they're part of the whole layer, or many layers. So body is a structure which acts in the world. Very easy definition now. Body is any structure which performs actions or activities in the surrounding environment, which is perceived as a world. And this body is completely determined by what is in the memory. It cannot do anything else. There is a hierarchy of memories which govern bodies. So bodies themselves are layered structure. Just now I gave you an example, body is a very good example of layered structure. So it is made up of cells and organs and so on, which everybody knows. In the case of human beings, but there can be infinite number of bodies, infinite variety is possible. And usually a body is less stable than the environment around it. It is the same layer, same layers. For example, our physical body is part of the physical world, physical layer, not different. They are made up of the same structures, same basic patterns. You can call it matter, or elements, physical. But they are less stable. That can be because they are more complicated, and it takes more effort to keep them going, to make them persistent. This effort is called energy. If the structure needs to work hard to keep another structure inside it, substructure, for example, senses or bodies, it needs to work hard to keep it as it is, maintain it, we say that it takes more energy. So more energy means a more stable body, more stable senses, and that helps in better survival. And this ability to put more effort into these activities is called power. These words: power, energy, and so on, they are occult words. They simply come out of our philosophy, but they have same meanings in the human world, ordinary language. Power and energy is needed, and the whole struggle of survival is to get more power, more energy. Everybody must have understood what is going on here. This simply falls out of our model, model of the illusion, or model of the vibrations. Now we don't need to assume too much. Now the basic hypothesis is giving us clarity. We are building on it, and we are verifying using the direct experience. You can check, it is logical. It is not a daydream. Imagination is not a small thing. Imagination is very powerful. Anything which can create is called power. You have this power to create. Are you using it? Power is called imagination. ## Ego, Will, and the Concept of the Individual Body, senses, complex body-mind structure creates knowledge, creates more layers inside its local memory, which are necessary for survival. And one of the activity, or one of the pattern that appears in this body-mind is called ego. The job of the ego is to separate what is necessary for survival from what is unnecessary. Very easy, that is the activity of the ego. So it draws a boundary: 'This is me,' and it creates a box, puts everything that is needed for survival into that box, and it says, 'This is me.' Whatever it needs for survival, it says, 'This is mine.' And if it's not needed, it says, 'Not mine.' Very easy. The logic of the ego is very easy. It is almost mechanical, just like a machine. So whatever it gathers as me will be called an individual. The word is very good. The word says that it cannot be divided into parts now. The ego will say, 'This is one whole,' although it is just aggregate: cells, bodies, organs, senses, memories, knowledge. It is made up of many things which we can, our intellect can dissect, but the ego says, 'It is one, it is me.' So the individuality is born here. In case of very complex structures with knowledge and memory and intelligence, a structure called individual is seen, it appears. Whatever actions are happening, the individual says, 'I am doing it, I'll do it, I'll do that,' although it's all coming from the storage of memory. Remember, the actor is deterministic, we saw in the section on the bodies. But the ego calls it my will. People call it free will, it is not free, it is my will. So it wills, which is simply movement of the vibrations, energy of the vibrations. Remember the word 'energy'? And it uses the power of the body-mind to act. Remember the use of all these words now? They are occult words, tantrik words: ego, actor, energy, power, memory. Remember all these words, they are not words, they are key to progress. They are keywords that will unlock your spiritual progress. This discussion is very entertaining, as you can see, but the intention is not simply to entertain, not to build castles in the air of imagination and theory, there is some use of it. So many people must have guessed by now, many of the wise listeners, they know where this is going. What if you know all these things, plus the laws on which this whole structure operates, how much power that is? Knowledge is power. So individual is a very powerful thing, don't think that it is an illusion. But it is an illusion, there should not be any doubt about it. Its powers are illusory, but that's what we want. We don't care whether it is illusion or not, because now it has solidified so much, you can call it a crystalline structure. A structure which is so regular, so complicated, and intentional. It says, 'I can do something.' It has free will, it can act, it has ego. It is powerful structure, but it is an illusion. The ego is not really present, it is an activity of the memory. The individual is a concept in the memory, there is no individual. ## The Person as a Mask and Societal Structures So you can see that this individual, it is more impermanent than the body, because a body can survive for many years, or there can be bodies like made up of metal, silicon, and whatever, they can survive for 1,000 years. But the individual is somewhat unstable, it's highly variable. You can check, the individual that is present from the age of 0 to 5 is not the same as the individual which is there from this age of 5 to 10 to 15, dramatic changes. And as this structure grows, the individual changes. And it changes every day, sometimes. One new experience is completely destroyed, and new individual is created, because what is it? It is simply knowledge, or a pattern in the memory. Changes very fast. The actor, the ego keeps changing. This is also called the person. Meaning of the word 'person' is mask. It is a mask that this structure is wearing, which keeps changing. It is shown to the outside world, to other people, other person. So why do all this kind of dance? You know, why take all this kind of trouble? Well, this ego, person, individual is necessary for survival, just like I said. If the structure becomes too complicated, you need to appoint another layer, or another function which can hold everything together. The individual is such an arrangement. But everything changes, that that which is it is trying to hold is continuously flowing, it's changing, and the individual itself is changing. So how how do we say that you are the same individual, or this body-mind, or creature, or machine, or whatever is the same thing? It has the same personality? Because there is an illusion of stability. We remember that this change thing, slightly changed, is same as the last one. This illusion is created. Individual creates its own illusion of itself, calls it me, in short: I. There is no I, it is an illusion. It is not even permanent, it's totally changing, like a rotating fan, it repeats some things, so is seen as the same. The activities and states repeat, so gives an illusion of stability. So the organization will not stop at individual. Individuals form groups, societies, cultures, civilizations, so on. Everybody knows all these things. But once you know the basics, you will be able to know everything that is formed by these basic elements. If you can control the individual, you can control all these things which are formed out of it: society, culture, group, countries, whatever you want. And this is immense amount of power. And that's why it is not told to ordinary individual. That is why it is hidden knowledge. So you should not tell this thing to everybody. One can become more powerful if you concentrate the power at one place. If you spread the power, it becomes diluted. It's not no more powerful. So understand, do not spread it. But I'm doing it. How's that possible? There is a contradiction here. Don't worry, nobody will understand what I'm saying, except those who have that kind of intelligence. Otherwise, these are just words. The words of knowledge are made for ears of wisdom. Nobody else will know these. So this concludes the basics. If you want to know more, more details of all these structures, memories, activities, you should watch the video series of Vibronics, more details are there. In the next part, we'll start explaining the laws of memory.
