Contemplation

The act of comparing the teachings with one's own direct experience.

The act of finding the truth of what was heard via direct experience and logic.

Contemplation provides the necessary evidence on the Path Of Knowledge. It is an evaluation of teachings, and is necessary for the student to progress and understand the teachings. Without contemplation, that which was heard remains merely an information.

Simply believing the teachings as they were heard, causes Ignorance or blind belief, not Knowledge.

Method of contemplation

  • The student should set aside some time for daily contemplation. One-two hours per day is good enough.
  • Find a quiet place where you can sit comfortably. There should be no distractions.
  • Keep a notebook handy.
  • Begin by calming your mind for a few minutes, followed by a prayer for assistance from the Gurufield in your contemplation. (Optional)
  • The prayer should be said aloud but softly (Not merely mentally). Introduce yourself, mention the name of your path and Guru, express your dedication, and pray for help in contemplation.
  • After this, you can engage in contemplation mentally or through writing. Optionally, you can speak if you are with someone else, or talk to yourself using a microphone.
  • Write down the subject of your contemplation and do not deviate from it.
  • Recall the teachings, review your experiences, apply logic, analyze with the seven questions, identify the consequences, and draw conclusions.
  • Study the subject from various angles. Such as taking the opposite views, considering its implications, relating it with other teachings etc.
  • Double check the arguments in your logic.
  • If there are any questions or doubts, write them down. Discuss them with your Guru later.
  • Summarize your conclusions. Write them down.
  • Sit quietly for five minutes, let the mind think about anything which is not on the topic of that day's contemplation.
  • Say thanks to the Guru and the Gurufield.
  • If you encounter challenges and obstacles such as sleepiness, tiredness, or headaches during contemplation, report them to your Guru.

Contemplation will become your nature, it will come automatically without any effort. This should be an enjoyable and fulfilling experience. If not, consult your guru or reconsider your path. If you cannot verify the teachings, or find no evidence for the teachings, consult your Guru. However, if the answers of the Guru are also not satisfactory, it is best to leave the path of knowledge.
