False (Skt. मिथ्या, Mithya) refers to that which is not ultimately true or real.

On the path of knowledge, the criterion for falsehood is change:

• That which changes is false

• All experience is constantly changing

• Therefore, all experience is false or illusory

• Only the unchanging existence is true

False does not mean non-existent - it means that things are not what they appear to be. Experiences exist as appearances but are not ultimately real.
