Spirit is the essential or true nature.

On the path of knowledge, spirit corresponds to the experiencer - that which is unchanging truth. It is not a ghostly substance but the witness that illuminates all experience.

The spirit/body duality is transcended in nondual understanding. The true nature is beyond both spirit and matter.
