Unknowing (Skt. अज्ञेयता Agyeyata) is the recognition that ultimate truth cannot be known through the intellect. Intellect helps in destruction of ignorance and after that a state of unknowing remains, not knowledge.

On the path of knowledge, unknowing is:

• Different from ignorance - it is wisdom, not lack

• The admission that existence cannot be captured in concepts

• The gateway to direct experience

• Related to negative knowledge

When the intellect admits its limits, nothing remains to know. This is the final state.
