All experience is characterized by activity - there is continuous change. The smallest possible activity is vibration, which is the most fundamental change.
Teachings
On the path of knowledge, it is understood that:- All activity is illusory, as it is constantly changing
- That which changes is false according to the criteria for truth
- The experiencer is beyond all activity - it is the silent witness of all activities
- The true nature of the existence is inactive, while illusory activity appears within it
- There is no doer of activity. The control appears; the system refines itself to produce optimal experience. Activity is simply vibration - the basic building block of all illusion.
- Activity is a characteristic of the experience, not of the experiencer.
Layer Activity
From the vibronics point of view, the memory is structured as layers, and each layer has its own activity. layer activity is the movement of semi-permanent structures in various layers. All layers are always active - there is no stagnation. The whole system is highly dynamic.- Activity never stops. Even in sleep, activity shifts to higher layers; death is simply cessation of lower layer activity.
- Activity increases and decreases in regular cycles: 24-hour, monthly, yearly, and longer cycles corresponding to higher layers.
- Activity is based on vibration - all change is cyclic vibration.
- A state is a semi-stable experience where one activity or group of activities dominates.
Mental Activity
The division between experience and experiencer is a mental activity. The mind's dividing activity produces the illusion of duality. When this dividing activity is included as part of experience, what remains is experiencing.- Mental activity evolved as a survival mechanism - arranging experiences of surroundings.
- The activity of arranging experiences produces knowledge.
- Awareness is a special kind of activity where knowledge of the Experiencer is present.
States and Activity
Experience is organized into states based on which layer activity dominates:Waking State Sub-states
- Insanity - uncontrolled lower layer activity
- Criminal - distorted activity with enough intelligence for planning
- Stupidity - random, non-goal-directed activity
- Egoic - survival, accumulation, defense, social climbing (dominant in most humans)
- Imaginative - higher layers engaged, creation of arts
- Rational - intelligence awakens, goal-directed logical activity
- Concentrated - mastered attention, stable rational activity
- Aware - knowledge of Experiencer arises, self-realization
Dream States
- Lucid dreaming, remote viewing, channeling, healing - attention shifts to higher layers while body is relaxed.
- Awareness in dreams can stop unnecessary dream activity, leading to pure bliss.
Sleep State
Sleep is the state of the universal memory - always active with infinite potential. Deep sleep with awareness is the fourth state (Turiya).Activity vs Process
Activity is perceived/experienced; a process may not be directly perceivable (e.g., self-organization of memory). Activity is a kind of process that can be experienced.Control of Activity
- The more awareness there is, the more control over attention.
- Suffering is negative activity of lower layers (addictions, anger, greed, etc.).
- Spiritual practice aims to shift activity from lower to higher layers.
- Complete control over all states/layers/activity is the goal of many seekers.
