Definition
Being is not a quality or attribute — it is the very substance of what is. The existence is defined as all that is present right now: the whole, the all, the one. It includes everything — the world, the people, the creatures, the bodies, the minds, the good, the bad, the true, the false. When you combine everything into one, that is Being.Since it includes all time, it is eternal and timeless. Since it includes everything, it is infinite. It includes all possibilities — the past, the present, the future, everything that is possible exists here. The totality is called existence, and its essence is pure Being.
Being and the Experiencer
The experiencer is Being itself. It is that aspect of existence which witnesses all appearances. To know Being directly is to know oneself as the Experiencer — the ground of all experience. Being is always present, always here, always now. It is the only truth, because it is the only thing that does not change. The self is pure Being — not this or that being, but Being itself, without limitation. It cannot be experienced as an object, because it is that which experiences. It cannot be found in the memory, because it is always in the present.
Being vs Becoming
Being and becoming represent two fundamental orientations. Becoming belongs to the domain of experience — the world of change, time, and illusion. Being belongs to the domain of the Experiencer — the changeless, timeless, real. The path of knowledge is not about becoming something new, but about recognising what one already is. The whole journey is from becoming to being — from the restless search for something in the future to the simple recognition of what is always already present.
Being is unknowable
Being, as the most fundamental reality, is unknowable in the ordinary sense. The mind cannot grasp it because the mind deals only with experiences — with appearances. Being is beyond comprehension, beyond intellect. Yet it is the most intimate reality — closer than any thought, any sensation, any perception. It is what you are, before you think about what you are.See also: existence, experiencer, becoming, consciousness, brahman, reality, self, sat.
