Enlightenment is a term used in various spiritual paths to describe the ultimate realization or self realisation.

On the path of knowledge, enlightenment is:

• Self realisation - knowing one's true nature

• The end of ignorance and suffering

• Not a special state or experience

• The recognition of what is always already the case

Enlightenment is not an achievement but the removal of the ignorance that obscured the truth.
