Knowledge (Skt. ज्ञान, Gyaan) can be defined as an organised form of experiences. Experiences are organised in the memory via Logical Relations.

Knowledge acquisition is a natural process, which is running continuously and is found in many evolved creatures. This process came into being as a strategy for survival. In highly evolved organisms, it has grown past its basic utility.

Knowledge is acquired via proper Means of knowledge.

A lack of knowledge is called ignorance.

Classification of knowledge

Knowledge can be classified based on various criteria.

Classification based on Knowability

Classification based on presence or absence

Classification based on objectivity

Classification based on directness

Classification based on correctness

Classification based on relativity

Experience of Knowledge

Just like everything else, knowledge is also an experience. It is experienced as a relation between contents of the memory. The contents of the memory themselves are experienced and are also knowledge, the relation is unary here, namely - this is or this exists.

Importance of Knowledge

Knowledge is the basis of life.

Knowledge affects speech and action, and action in turn creates knowledge. Our quality of life depends on our actions, thoughts and speech and thus depends on knowledge.

In its absence or ignorance, it is not possible for the organism to survive. Wisdom is inextricably linked to knowledge, and intelligence is the essence of humanity. Thus being human is dependent on knowledge. An ignorant man is akin to animals. And knowledge, the spiritual or ultimate knowledge, helps humans to evolve beyond humanity. It is a must for spiritual progress.

Knowledge and the path of knowledge

On the path of knowledge we want the ultimate or absolute knowledge. Knowledge that is direct and true. Knowledge is mostly negative in the path of knowledge, that is, one does not gain any knowledge on the path of knowledge, only the ignorance is destroyed. In this way, the path of knowledge leads the seeker to Agnosticism.
