A materialist is one who believes that matter is the fundamental substance of reality.

On the path of knowledge, materialism is:

• A philosophical belief system

• Based on assumptions about the nature of experience

• A form of ignorance when held uncritically

• Limited to explaining only certain aspects of experience

The path of knowledge transcends materialism by recognizing that consciousness is more fundamental than matter.
