Spiritual goals are the objectives a
seeker sets on a
spiritual path, such as
liberation,
self realisation, peace, or union with the divine. On the
path of knowledge, the ultimate goal is
self knowledge the direct recognition of one's true nature as the
experiencer.
Goals on the Path of Knowledge
- The primary goal is liberation (moksha) from ignorance not from the world, but from the false identification with the body-mind.
- Secondary goals (peace, happiness, powers) are byproducts of self realisation, not the goal itself.
- The path does not promise to fulfill worldly desires it subtracts, not adds. Seekers who want worldly benefits will be disappointed.
- The desire for knowledge must be pure for knowledge itself, not for what knowledge can bring.
