Happiness And Freedom


Definition

Happiness and Freedom are natural goals for any creature. This is necessary. No one can have any other goal. No matter what action or state one chooses, it is essentially happiness and freedom.

Happiness and Freedom are the natural results of self realisation. True happiness (bliss) is not derived from objects or experiences it is the nature of the self. True freedom (moksha) is freedom from ignorance.

  • Happiness is not in objects it is the nature of the experiencer. Objects only seem to give happiness when the desire for them is temporarily satisfied.
  • Freedom is not the ability to do whatever one wants it is freedom from the compulsion of desire and karma.
  • The search for happiness is really the search for the self. When the Self is known, happiness is found to be one's own nature.
  • Freedom from suffering is possible only through knowledge no amount of changing external circumstances brings lasting freedom.
