Spiritual Paths (Skt. मार्ग
Marga) are the various methods, systems, and approaches developed to help seekers dismantle their
ignorance and achieve
self-realisation. While different paths suit different human temperaments, the
path of knowledge is recognized as the most direct and central of them all.
The Core Spiritual Paths
- Path of Knowledge (Jnana Marga): The direct, subtractive path. It does not require complex practices, rituals, or beliefs. It uses sound logic and direct experience to systematically remove the layers of ignorance, revealing the experiencer (the Self) instantly.
- Royal Path (Raja Yoga): A systematic path focused on training, organizing, and cleaning up the mind’s activities through discipline and concentration.
- Path of Energies (Kundalini/Hatha Yoga): A highly active and structured path focused on manipulating non-physical energies and purifying the nervous system to expand awareness.
- Path of Actions (Karma Yoga): Tailored for active temperaments, this path involves performing actions in the world as a selfless service, without attachment to the fruits of those actions.
- Path of Devotion (Bhakti Yoga): The path of complete surrender. The seeker surrenders their ego to a higher presence through love and devotion, eventually realizing their non-dual oneness with the Divine.
- Path of Occult: A lower path where the seeker uses rituals, magic, and deity worship to fulfill worldly desires, eventually getting tired of the temporary nature of pleasures and turning toward real knowledge.
The Centrality of Knowledge
Knowledge is the most essential thing for any spiritual path. All other paths are merely decorations on knowledge, and they must eventually lead to the path of knowledge. For example, devotion matures into knowledge, and selfless action purifies the mind to receive knowledge.
