Atmabodh Verse 1 and 2

Session on Book Atmabodh and Summary in English and Hindi Under Long Description- Verse 1 and 2 of the book discussed. What are the main qualities of a seeker? What will not lead to self realisation? Summary Shri Shankaracharya states the eligibility criteria for listening to Atmabodha - A person who yearns for liberation/ moksha, whose heart is pure and devoid of any kind of desire, who has performed tapa to cleanse himself and restrains oneself from indulging in sensory gratification. Leading a human life and not doing any tapa is a sin. Getting up in brahmamuhurta, eating one meal a day, performing asana and pranayama etc., strengthens one’s body from disease.Performing austerities helps in removing of impurities( attachment , aversion, greed, lust, anger....)in our mind. Having purified body and mind makes one receptive to the knowledge imparted. Performing virtuous karmas like going on pilgrimage, serving master, reciting mantras and are tools that helps to purify oneself . But tapa alone will not lead one to self-realisation. One needs to perform some activity or the other for attaining anything in the world. The same holds true for aspiring devotees to attain jnana. To cook a meal, only the accumulation of ingredients wouldn’t be enough. Unless fire is lit, food will not be cooked. Likewise Liberation is not possible without Jnana. Our entire life is spent in pursuit of wealth and comfort. No amount of wealth can end one’s suffering, bondages, fears or anxieties. In the end, when one dies in a state of fear and worry, he/ she would be born again - maybe as an animal. Not knowing oneself is the darkness. Not knowing Atman is darkness. Bottom line is no matter what you do, the only way to eradicate the darkness of ignorance is through light of Jnana. Neither can karma negate ignorance nor its effects. Those who are focused on doing karmas, whether it is selfless or desire oriented, would not be free from bondage. Only Jnana obtained from an enlightened Guru liberates a person. सारांश: १. श्लोक (भाव): जिसने तपस्या करके सभी पापों को क्षीण कर लिया है ।जिसके हृदय में शांति है , जिसने वासना पर विजय पा ली हैऔर जो हृदय मोक्ष की इच्छा रखता हो। वही व्यक्ति इस ग्रंथ का अधिकारी है। शंकराचार्य जी कहते हैं कि यह ग्रंथ पढ़ने के लिए साधक में कुछ योग्यताओं का होना अनिवार्य जैसे १. उसने तप किया हो २. उसके पाप क्षीण हो चुके हो ३. वह मोक्ष की इच्छा रखता हो क्योंकि इंद्रियों को भोग देने से उनकी वृत्ति बढ़ती है। इंसान भोगी हो जाता है और यही भोग हमारे दुःख का कारण है। तप का अर्थ है संयम। संकल्प करके उस पर डटे रहना ही तप है। तप की अपेक्षा मनुष्य को स्वयं से जरूर करनी चाहिए। जिस व्यक्ति का प्रयोजन मोक्ष है वही इस ग्रंथ का अधिकारी है। क्योंकि ज्ञान तो दिया जा सकता है परंतु ज्ञान की जिज्ञासा नहीं जगाई जा सकती। जिस व्यक्ति का लक्ष्य संसार है वह ज्ञान का अधिकारी नहीं है। इस ग्रंथ का अधिकारी होने के लिए उसमें यह गुण होने आवश्यक हैं: १... प्रयोजन २... योग्यता ३… प्रतिपाद्य ४ प्रतिपादक २.श्लोक (भाव ): अन्य सांसारिक चीजों के लिए कर्म करना बनता है। परंतु यदि आत्मबोध करना है तो उसके लिए मंदिर, तीर्थ ,अनुष्ठान जैसे कार्य सहायक हो सकते हैं। इन सब से अंतःकरण कि शुद्धि भी हो सकती है लेकिन आत्म ज्ञान नहीं हो सकता। आत्म ज्ञान का एकमात्र मार्ग है ब्रह्मज्ञान । ब्रह्मविद्या से ही अज्ञान मिट सकता है और ज्ञान बिना मोक्ष नहीं है। मैं कौन हूं ? यह अज्ञान है। ज्ञान की रोशनी में ही अज्ञान के बादल छट सकते हैं। और स्वयं से स्वयं का परिचय होगा। दूसरे शब्दों में आत्म के स्वरूप का ज्ञान होगा :जो सत्य है, चैतन्य है और आनंदमय है
