Atmabodha Verse 26

Verse 26 The Atman/ the real Self does not perform any action. Thinking, analysing, concluding; these are the actions of the intellect. However, the inert intellect cannot perform any action on its own. All the actions of the intellect are possible only because of the light of the Atman. The reflection of the real Self in the unit of mind-intellect is known as jiva. Shankaracharya says that it is the light of the Atman that enables the intellect to act, but due to the delusion jiva thinks that it is the knower. It is the ego’s delusion that it believes it has a real existence, that it functions autonomously. Ego is, because the Self is. Ego’s existence is an illusion. It’s just a reflection; hence, its reality is as illusory as that of a mirage. ‘I’, the Self am, hence, the intellect can think and not the other way round. For example:electricity enables the functioning of the gadgets in our homes ; by itself electricity doesn’t perform any action. The actions are done by the gadgets but only in the presence of electricity. Likewise, ‘I’the real Self, does not perform any action. ‘I’ the Self am the knower. The ego is seated in the intellect, mistakenly thinks that it is the knower, the seer. This is ego-delusion. श्लोक 26: शंकराचार्य जी कहते हैं: ego is delusion अर्थात अहम भाव एक भ्रम/ धोखा /झूठ ‌‌है। आत्मा कर्ता नहीं है। सारे कार्य आत्मा के प्रकाश में बुद्धि द्वारा किए जाते हैं। परंतु जैसे ही आत्मा का प्रकाश बुद्धि पर आता है -अहम भाव जागृत हो जाता है। जैसे: *जानता हूं *मैं कर रहा हूं *मैं देख रहा हू। परंतु बुद्धि में यह भाव आत्मा के प्रतिबिंब के कारण आते हैं। जिसको जीव( मन बुद्धि और शरीर) अपने ऊपर आरोपित कर लेता है। यही उसकी भ्रांति/भ्रम का कारण है। I am..... therefore I think सोचने की प्रतिक्रिया तभी संभव है जब मैं हूं। इसलिए मेरा होना मेरे सोचने से पहले आता है। जीव को यह जानकारी ही नहीं है कि अहंकार/ ego जैसा कुछ है ही नहीं। क्योंकि अहम भाव जैसी भावना का अस्तित्व केवल आत्मा के दम पर है। *आत्मा का प्रतिबिंब= बुद्धि पर पड़ता है * बुद्धि सोचती है= मैं कर रहा हूं *यही अहम है *यही झूठ है उदाहरण के लिए... यदि पंखा जो बिजली के कारण चल रहा है। यदि वह बोल पाता तो वह यही कहता कि मैं चल रहा हूं। इसलिए हवा आ रही है। वास्तविकता तो यह है पंखा जड़ है और वह बिजली के बिना कुछ भी नहीं है। ठीक इसी तरह अहम भाव -जो केवल जड़ मात्र है। स्वयं को कर्ता मान बैठा है।स्वयं को जानने वाला जान बैठा है। जबकि आत्मा के प्रकाश के कारण सब घटित हो रहा है और वही सिर्फ एक दृष्टा है। परंतु यह बात भी ध्यान देने योग्य है कि सिर्फ बिजली हमें वह सुविधाएं नहीं दे सकती। सुविधाओं के लिए पंखे जैसे उपकरणों का होना आवश्यक है। ठीक उसी तरह आत्मा का अनुभव प्राप्त करने के लिए मन, बुद्धि और शरीर जैसे उपकरण ज़रूरी हैं। पर अब प्रश्न यह उठता है- तो कर्ता कौन है? गहराई से मनन करें तो ज्ञात होगा करने वाला कोई भी नहीं है। कर्ता भाव अंकगणित कर्ता भाव से संबंधित है। इसलिए किसने किया या यह क्यों हुआ? इसका उत्तर असंभव है। परन्तु सारी समस्याओं की जड़ यही है कर्ता भाव है।हर कोई खुद को कर्ता मानकर उसका श्रेय खुद लेना चाहता है। यही सब बंधनों का कारण भी है । अगर यह ज्ञान आ जाए कि कोई कर्ता नहीं है, केवल दृष्टा मात्र है। तो बन्धन मुक्त हुआ जा सकता है।
