Verse 53 ( continuation) Different types of knowing: Direct knowing : that which occurs through cognitive senses and doesn’t require external gratification because it can be actually experienced. Indirect knowing : where there is no first hand experience, but one must have heard about it, or read about it.e.g. The notion of heaven and hell. This knowing needs some form of validation. Scriptural doctrine or endorsement from saints - about the entities called atman, Brahman, God. This knowledge is not in one’s own experiential inference, hence its veracity is doubted. The third kind of knowing~ : the knowing of ‘I’ am. This knowing is neither direct nor indirect. Body is visible, but that which exists in the body - is not perceived directly. I know I am, for ‘I’ am sentient - no validation is required to know that one actually exists. The body doesn’t know Me, the mind doesn’t know Me, but ‘I’ know the body, ‘I’ know the mind for ‘I’ am ever- conscious. This knowing of ‘I am’ which is neither direct or indirect is called ‘ aparoksha ’ knowing. Through uninterrupted contemplation, and resolute conviction, I know that I am the ever- conscious ever-blissful, absolute truth - this knowing is called ‘ sakshat-aparoksha’. ‘I am Brahman - even if the intellect knows this, or it doesn’t. ‘I’ am the sun that always exists - the day the mind knows this, it will be freed from all attachments, all bondages and all sufferings. When the light of jnana enters the mind- intellect, all the darkness of ignorance gets dispelled and the mind abides in eternal repose in the Self. The self is never lost hence no question of finding it. It was not known and then one comes to know it. The body- mind- intellect, senses and external objects etc., are untrue. But the foundation of this untruth is the one truth - the Self. That which is formless, abides in the abode of truth. Just as fragrance resides in a flower, so does the Self resides in us. जानकारी विभिन्न प्रकार की होती हैं : * प्रत्यक्ष जानकारी: इस प्रकार की जानकारी इंद्रियों के द्वारा होती है और इनका अनुभव मनुष्य स्वयं करता है। इसलिए इसकी पुष्टि की आवश्यकता नहीं रहती। *अप्रत्यक्ष जानकारी :यह जानकारी सुनने या पढ़ने द्वारा मिलती है। इसके लिए प्रमाण की आवश्यकता रहती है। इस पर संदेह करना भी लाजमी है। * अपरोक्ष जानकारी: यह जानकारी ना तो प्रत्यक्ष ना ही अप्रत्यक्ष है। जैसे शरीर तो नजर आता है ।परंतु शरीर के अंदर क्या है उसको देखना संभव नहीं है। इस तरह "मैं हूं.".. मुझे पता है ।इसके लिए कोई प्रमाण की आवश्यकता नहीं है। परंतु शरीर/मन /बुद्धि मुझे नहीं जानती । पर मैं शरीर /मन/ बुद्धि को जानता हूं। यही अपरोक्ष ज्ञान है। *मनन और दृढ़ आस्था से यह स्पष्ट होता है कि "मैं" शाश्वत और सर्वव्यापक हूं। यही एक मात्र सत्य भी है। इसे साक्षात अपरोक्ष ज्ञान कहते हैं। "मैं ब्रह्म हूं "। यही एकमात्र सत्य है। बुद्धि माने या ना माने। मैं वह सूर्य हूं जो हमेशा से ही है। इस सत्य को जिस दिन मन मान लेता है... वह बंधन मुक्त हो जाता है । जब यह ज्ञान मन बुद्धि समझ जाती है ... तब अज्ञान हट जाता है। मन आत्मा के साथ एकासार हो जाता है। वह आत्मा ही हो जाता है। यही उसका असली स्वरूप है।जो अज्ञानता के कारण धुंधला सा था जो दिखाई नहीं पड़ रहा था । ज्ञान से स्पष्ट हो जाता है। मन/ बुद्धि/ शरीर/ इंद्रियां और बाहर की सब वस्तुएं भ्रम है। आत्मन ही सब का अधार और एकमात्र सत्य है। यह निराकार है। जैसे खुशबू फूलों में रहती है.... ठीक उसी तरह आत्मा भी हमारे अंदर ही है।
