Atmabodha Verse 67 & 68

श्लोक 67: शंकराचार्य जी कहते हैं कि आत्मा हृदय में निवास करती है। 'हृदय' शब्द का प्रयोग अक्सर बुद्धि के साथ किया जाता है। इसका कारण यह है कि बुद्धि आत्मा के सबसे करीब है। बुद्धि का जानना ही हमारा 'जानना' है। गुरु हमारी बुद्धि को ज्ञान का दान देते हैं । इसके फलस्वरूप, व्यक्ति ही ज्ञान का भण्डार है। संपूर्ण विश्व ... आत्मा के प्रकाश में ही जगमगाता है। यही सर्वोच्च ज्ञान है। स्वयं ... स्वयं को.... स्वयं से.... जानता है। श्लोक 68: शंकराचार्य जी कहते हैं कि जिसने सभी व्यर्थ सांसारिक गतिविधियों को त्याग दिया है । वह केवल उसकी आराधना करता है जो : *दिशा, *स्थान *समय - से सीमित नहीं बल्कि से स्वतंत्र है। और जो - सर्वव्यापी -शाश्वत, -निष्कलंक, - सदैव आनंदित "आत्मा " है । एकमात्र धाम .... जो शरीर के जीते जी .... व्यक्ति को बंधन मुक्त कर सकता है .....वह है (स्वयं)आत्मा रूपी पावन मंदिर। ऐसा व्यक्ति यह एहसास करने में सक्षम हो जाता है कि वही *सर्वसर्वव्यापी, *अमर * पूर्ण है। बाहरी तीर्थयात्रा करने से... सांसारिक सुखों के रूप में ... पुण्य कर्म का फल ज़रूर मिलेगा। और इस सुख के साथ दुःख भी आते ही हैं। यह सब करके भी आत्मा के समान शाश्वत आनंद नहीं मिलेगा। आचार्य कहते हैं- पुण्य कर्मों के फल के पीछे मत भागो और न ही नीच कर्म करो। किसी भी बाहरी देवी देवता की पूजा करने की आवश्यकता नहीं है। आत्मा की उपासना ही ब्रह्मन है। Verse 67 Atman abides in the heart-space, says Shankaracharya. The word ‘heart’ is often used interchangeably with the intellect, the reason being intellect is close to the Self. The intellect’s knowing is my ‘knowing’. Guru endows the intellect with jnana that in effect the individual is the essence of jnana. The entire world shines in the light of the Self, the Atman. This is the highest knowledge. The Self knows the Self by the Self. Verse 68 Shankar Acharya says the one who has relinquished all the futile worldly activities worships that which is independent of constraints of direction, space and time; that which is omnipresent; the eternal, the immaculate, the ever-blissful Atman. The only pilgrimage that would liberate any one while the body is still alive, is the holy shrine of one’s own Self/Atman. It enables one to realise that he/she is the all-knowing, all-pervading, immortal absolute existence. External pilgrimage would give one the fruits of virtuous karma (punya) in form of worldly pleasures; along with the pleasures come sorrow. It would not give the eternal bliss of Atman. Acharya says - don’t run after fruits of virtuous karmas neither indulge in vile karmas. There is no a need to worship any external deities, the only thing to worship is at the altar of Atman.
